moonshineshadow: Games to play/finish yet: 261 :D
That's not so bad. You could have that wiped out in a year, year and a half. ;) -laughs-

Nah not really. Reading books takes too much time away from playing games ;-) Normally I do not finish more than 20-30 games a year.

Okay...so it's a nine year plan instead...
That's still doable. =)

If I do not buy more games ;-) Truth is in the last few years I bought more games than finished :D
Except for last year. I finished more than bought up until Secret santa happened and I got gifted really generously :D

So how big do you think is your backlog and how long to finish it?

I know what you mean...the last two big sales, I added over 50 games each time. Definitely going backwards on that one.

Backlog-wise...I'd say there's probably 6 to 7 hundred in total, between console, PC and rentals. I probably have enough stuff right now to keep occupied for at least 3 years.
Slowly making sense of duplicates, rentals, stuff like that so it can all be more organized. I think the rentals will be gone long before the GOG catalog since so many of the games I've picked up in bundles are smaller and more shallow.

That is true, often the indie bundle games are quite short and fast to finish :-)
And yeah with all these different sources it can be a bit of work to keep track of everything, that is why I made a list with all games and where they are from :D

Always better to be organized. =)

For me, the primary annoyance is clearing up duplicates from Humble or sales for items I didn't think would end up here.
Have ended up buying something along with renting it more than once. Always irritating.

Right now, I've got my GOG folder, which has all the games I own here in it (reminding me constantly that I need an external hard drive), my DRM-free Humble stuff (which is slowly being deleted as I clear items since I've yet to run across a game in it that's valuable enough to retain), and my rentals (which I'm checking to see which ones have cards to them, stuff like that, since I promised someone I'd pass them the cards as I get them).

Fun stuff. -laughs-

Yeah when I started to buy some bundles I made that list to be on the safe side - even if I normally remember all the games I own - since I did not want to end up with duplicates. With the exception for backup duplicates of old games that do not run on my new computer since my old one is giving me trouble :-)
So I am curious do you rent games from steam directly sometimes or is it just bundle stuff that you have there?

You were smarter about it. I made a bit of a mess initially, now I need to clean it out.

More often than not, I go with rentals of certain items I've been waiting for than bundles. It used to be the opposite, but now that I have a huge pile of things, I don't get those as often.

Recently, I rented a few games from Square-Enix that I've wanted to clear. Less than 20 dollars for 7 items, and I know I'll be getting at least 5 hours of game time per dollar.
The ratio of game time to money spent is one of the main ways I determine whether or not to rent something.

There was a time I often bought bundles but now I almost never buy them anymore. Too many unsatisfying games even for such low prices. So I decided not cluttering my backlog even more with them :D

Your way to determine renting games is really interesting. I only have the games from previous bundles there and sometimes I rent one or two I really want to play and can't get without steam (like for example the newer Lego games to play with my mum).

Total agreement with you there. Most of the time, it's stuff that you really don't even want, so why get it.

Right. When something comes here that's been a rental, I buy it here again so I can actually own it, then ditch the rental.
I don't get nearly as analytical when it comes to GOG games, but that's the joy of actual ownership. I'm not going to drop 60 dollars on something that can be taken from me at a moment's notice.

I've done that ONCE. Borderlands 2.
Did the whole paying more thing, all the DLC nonsense, all the crap, and now?
I don't buy games from that company anymore.

Yeah I agree on that. I always wait for sales if I get games from steam. Only game which needed steam I bought full price is Risen 2. But I actually bought the collectors edition in a shop, but it needed steam to work. But when it came here I bought it again :D
Thankfully Deepsilver listened to all the complaints from German fans and released the third one drm free (it does a disk check but I do not consider that drm like some "fanatics") in retail versions :D

A disk check is no big thing, so long as it's done properly. Leave the disk in, play the game. Not exactly awful.

Right. Like I said, I did the triple A garbage experience thing one time, and even then I don't think I paid full price for the base game.

That's one thing I wish would change. I hate that I can't go to a local shop and grab a PC game without it being nothing more than a key to download it off the net.

I like discs. I like interesting game boxes. I like actual physical manuals. And all those things are pretty much treated like extras now.

Yes I agree on that. That is the reason I have many games still on disks. Sadly I can't buy them so much anymore, since at the moment I am in the French speaking part of Switzerland and I have no real use for French manuals :D
That is the reason I was so happy about Risen 3. It was like ages ago. Just going into a shop and buying a game which came on a disk and not just a download key. And yes it was just the normal leave disk in and play. Worked like a charm.

It'd be great to have the choice, but I think the closest we're going to get to that is being able to buy games from GOG and back them up as we see fit.
Even with that, I kinda doubt people are burning their games onto discs after converting installers into disk images.
With the pre-set installers, who wants the additional hassle? Just download a bunch of games, then squeeze them onto discs as many as you can fit at a time until you can get a hard drive to pack everything in at once.
