I just realized that Steam's regional pricing actually makes games cheaper for me in Brazil than buying them on GOG. I'd still rather have GOG's superior DRM-free versions, but it's something to think about
Hey everyone!

I've just skimmed the last few pages of the thread as I haven't had a chance to catch up properly. What have I missed?

Not feeling great here, was supposed to have three busy days of work to revitalise our finances, instead today was a complete wash out and waste of time and I can't see tomorrow or Tuesday being much better :/

Bleh.

But on a brighter note I had a very nice message from our resident mountaineer budejovice spreading some Christmas cheer and some games from the Nordic promo which I am looking forward to trying, so if you see any of his posts around +1 the hell out of them for me ;)

j0ekerr: The only DLC I have truly enjoyed are the fallout ones.
Same here. I had some mixed feelings about FO3's DLC, but I loved all of NV's DLC. Each one was huge - like a good old proper expansion pack. They were all very different from each other, with plenty of new content, cool worlds to explore, and interesting stories and characters. And they were priced really well - correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they were all $10 at launch.

Other than those, I haven't found any DLC to be worth the money.

Sorry you're not feeling well, I'm in the same boat. Hope you get better real quick!
Will +1 our mountain bum. ;)

Thank you. It's not any physical malady (touch wood, for once I seem to have avoided the Christmas cold), just more financial worries. Had hoped the market we were at today might be good and solve some of them, but it was not to be.

Hope you feel better too :)

And I've just been ninja gifted by trent too, so you'd best +1 him too... Sneaky generous bastards! ;)

FoxySage: Heartstone isn't "pay-to-win". It is "pay-for-convenience". Big difference. If you're skilled enough you can get to legend ranks with only the basic cards and you can get a lot of gold from daily quests/arena wins to get the rarer and better cards. (Also requires a bit of luck to get legendaries in boosters too)

Really isn't that hard of a game to win and have fun with.

How does Mortal Kombat plays compared to Tekken or Skullgirls though? Those are my only comparisons for fighting games. Never played Soul Calibur and i haven't played any Street Fighter games since the Amiga, so hard to compare it to that. XD
avatar
CarrionCrow: When I played it, if you wanted to do ranked play, you needed a whole lot more high-end cards. They put gold acquisition via gameplay to a broken crawl while rolling out the (big surprise) get more cards for real money angle.
No surprise there, they got as many people hooked as possible, then brought out the microtransactions.
Gotta LOVE the modern games industry.

If you enjoy it, that's great. To me, it was just another company wanting to nickel and dime me into the ground.

Deleted it, deleted Battle.net, and unless I run out of other games to buy so I end up getting Starcraft 1 on disc from Amazon, not touching their stuff again.
I don't know when you played Heartstone but i played when it first came out of beta and had a vastly different experience from you. Took me about 2-3 months to get enough gold from arena wins/daily quests to have all the necessary good cards to make a decent deck from each class.

My first mage deck in ranked was pretty similar to this deck (excluding the faceless manipulator) and i did quite well with it.

Most of the really good cards are common/rare which is easy to get, tbh.

But well, if you don't enjoy it that's okay. Not all games are for everyone. :)

j0ekerr: It's not the pay2win that annoys me. After all the original card games winning strategy was; "spend whole wads of money on booster packs until I get enough overpowered rares to beat the crap out of my oponnent... until the next expansion." It's just that... it's a freaking card game, why are you playing it on the computer? I honestly see no appeal. I'd rather sit down in front of the actual person and shuffle read cards.

Skullgirls is a very good 2D fighting game, Tekken is an excellent 3D one. The way you play both are completely different. Choose your favorite poison.
Because it is easier to find an opponent to play against than in real life? Especially when you don't have any friends that play card games and live in the middle of nowhere? Also, it is free and a pretty fun card game. *shrugs*

I know those are great games. That's why i asked about a comparison to Mortal Kombat. Doesi t have responsive and fluent controls? Are combos relatively easy to use (and abuse)?

I tell a lie, I have one other exception to that extremely short list, LA Noire. But that is a case of good side stories to a game that was more story than game. And yet I still feel that buying each separate DLC is a scam. Much better being patient and buying the complete editions.

I find myself unable to play Fallout NV due to my 360's disc drive not working.

Edit: Speaking of LA Noire. I just saw a funny thing in the competition. It's currently a daily and right now buying the game and dlc separately is actually cheaper than buying the complete edition

Is Hearthstone any good? I've always loved collectable card games, Pokemon cards and Warcry (based on Warhammer) were both great, but I only ever really had my brother to play against when we both still lived at my parents. Plus it was really difficult to get Warcry cards in Ireland.

I'm not sure I'd have the time (or inclination) to devote to it, but if it was any good I might give it a try.

I have never played it personally, but I did see someone win a five or six figure payday in a tournament for the game so it must be popular somewhere ;)

Well that makes it instantly more interesting ;)

Depends on who you ask in here. *laughs*

CarrionCrow and j0ekerr don't like it, but i do find it enjoyable and quite good. I like it because of the deck building and just playing wacky decks in the ranked ladder for fun. (Really amusing to play with a non-optimal deck and beat the current top net decks. XD)

It took me 2-3 months with casual play in arena (and ranked to get the daily quests) to have a decent amount of legendaries/rares back when i played. Last time i played was back in June/july.

Good evening. =)
Sorry to hear that you've got to worry about cash, hopefully that'll be improving for you a hell of a lot sooner rather than later.

Some DLC's actually worth it, like you mentioned. To me, it's the companies that throw out reskins and what amounts to cheat codes for money that drag down the entire image of it for everyone.
Was checking the competition for giggles, and dear gods is it obvious just how willing some companies are to milk customers for every single penny possible.
(Looking at you, Square/Enix....what the hell happened to you guys....-shakes head-)

I lied too. I really like the Wolfpack for PAYDAY: The Heist. It is basically just a handful of new weapons, gadgets, and perks. For people who don't plan on playing it much, it is not worth it. But for a 300+ hour player like myself, it was a great investment. It has given me several hundred hours of enhanced enjoyment.

Sucks that you can't play NV :-(
