ddickinson: I hope not as you can make them be hookers and they do naked cam shows. I think it is the usual anime style of making everyone look underage with big boobs.

JoeyMallone: Yeah... "usual"... typically it's the best way to turn me off from a game/movie/whatever. Never really been a fan of that style.
Other random ways to turn me off : "Tough as nails", "pixel art", "Devolver" :-p
I love "anime" art styles it just has to be done well.

ddickinson: *-- spoiler about Gone Home --*

Did you discover the sub-story about the father being abused?
Hey wait, darn, I missed that too. I realized mom was cheating on him (right? it's been a while since I played it) but I didn't know that.

JoeyMallone: Ah... my problem is that many of the games I play are really long (Dragonfall took me 36 hours :-p), or can't really be "finished" (like Terraria.) .... and just a ton of really plucking hard platformers that I'll never complete :-p
Well that's usually the same for me - which is why i chose some shorter games to play :P

Eh wait wait wait. Blackwell is pixel art?

FearfulSymmetry: *waves at thread*

Just came back from watching the horror movie at the cinema. And luckily this time I wasn't all by myself watching it (that's happened before, just me, the empty cinema and the horror movie :P).
Hey *big hug*
Which movie was it? And did you enjoy it?

It just seems strange how they went for a lesser art style after the praise they got for Huniepop. I think some of the same characters are in the new game, but I am not too sure.

omega64: You could say that. Played it through once and it won't get a second. It will forever be a mystery.
You really didn't miss much.

avatar
FearfulSymmetry: *thank you hug* Yep, it was pretty decent. A nice distraction. :)
Glad to hear it. *big hug*

ElTerprise: Agreed. I also liked the slight cartoony artstyle in Firewatch :)
To be honest i don't really care about all that stuff going around those games - but it is a bit overrated mostly because it's too light on actual gameplay imho.... i mean Firewatch is not heavy on gameplay either but there is still more to it and it's also slightly less linear due to its dialogue system then Gone Home.
Depends on how clear it was mentioned in game. I found some stuff that highly suggested that...especially in the basement.
I don't really care about it either, I just mean that I don't like people who use that as a shield against honest and valid criticism about their games. The suggested stuff is probably it. I never really saw what it added to the story.

Not counting adventure games :-p

Seeing platformer after platformer of pixel art gets tiring for me though. Yes, it is a huge double standard :-p

Nope, the thing I was talking about was the underlying suggestion that the dad's uncle molested him when the dad used to visit the house as a child.

It really is. :P

Hey! *hug* How are you?

The Forest, a horror movie. It was pretty decent. Gave me a few jump scares even though I was mostly expecting it. The movie was pretty evil. At one point it built up to a jump scare, then showed a perfectly normal not-frightening image, so I relaxed, then they suddenly turned that image into something scary after all. That one got me. :P

Hahaha, I see then. To be fair, Wadjet Eye does pixel art really well. The last Blackwell game is absolutely gorgeous.

Eh, I guess I missed that. Although at this point it's been so long since I played it I'm not really sure anymore.

Well that's true - but it's a general problem with the discussion culture nowadays...
I guess it was there to show problems the parents have/had like the cheating from the mother.. i don't know....it wasn't completely fleshed out....

I don't think it mattered, as I said to ELT it is not like it really added anything to the game.

I guess it was their attempt to add more to the game to maybe encourage people to replay?

Sounds not too bad - although it's probably nothing for me. I'm very picky when it comes to horror movies :)

Maybe. It might give a different understanding to some reactions etc....

Yes, I suppose the game was a bit bland in general. As you can see, it didn't really stick with me.

You only watch the really good ones? ;)

My sister and I treat horror as comedy when we're together. All the scary bits somehow become funny if we're both commenting on it. :P

Well i generally don't really like horror and i avoid most of the movies in that genre but i still like some of the classics in that genre like The Birds or The Fog ;)
