denormative: I have no idea if their recent games are uncensored or not
From what I observed, most games on Jast seem to be completely uncensored.
avatar
kn1000a: Think you meant to say the opposite. It’s because Jast games are uncensored that’s why the site is blocked from Japan. Japanese censoring laws and all that stuff.

Use a VPN to bypass the block.
avatar
denormative: I have no idea if their recent games are uncensored or not; I'm blocked remember? If I search on gog or steam they literally don't show up, so I don't know any recent JAST releases and haven't for at least the last 7 years. I only noticed this one since Gog sent me an email advertising it as coming soon and then wouldn't let me see it so I googled it and found this thread.

I do recall getting censored games in one of their fukubukuro's way back in the day when their games were on shiny disks and I lived in a different country, but maybe it wasn't one of their self published ones.

As for VPNs, part of my job is to put in these regional level blocks, and given the laws on circumvention of access controls I'd rather deal with copyright laws. Copyright is simple, clean and have defined punishments, security laws are vague, badly tested, and heavily putative.

Even ignoring that; do you think JAST, who blocks access to Japan, would accept my Japanese credit card? I have no idea if vpn spoofing would cause problems with my steam or gog account, but given I've got hundreds of games with over a decade of history on both, I'd rather not risk losing them. :/
You could use Paypal since the Jast site accepts that.
Workarounds exist, if you're willing enough.

Lodium: Depending on the price of the game i migth gift you a copy or trade you later when the game is out. Its says still coming on the game page
Just need a reminder a bit later in case i forget
Thanks but I spent some time trying to find reviews/references/stuff on the game that wasn't blocked and it doesn't really look like my thing. Happy for the help though!

Unfortunately that's the problem. I had to spend 20+ minutes digging through google cache and japanese pagers with google translate to find out enough about the game to decide if I'd like it or not. If I had access to the jastusa page, or steam reviews, or whatever I could pretty easily decide it within a minute.

This is basically why I haven't realized what games JAST have released in years, they made it so difficult to realize they've released games, and when you do realize they've released one, the only way you can find reviews and information are on the same pirate sites you're a mega upload link away from just downloading it without all this nonsense.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the help; I love GoG and support it since it was just old dos games, but if steam is the only place I can buy eroge then it's the place I'll still only buy eroge. :/ Unfortunately, I just checked, and all the other games of this 'genre' I found that I want I've already purchased on steam; except for most of the JAST games which are likely hidden. :(

To get reviews on these games you do not have to use pirate sites. Go to vndb.org and look at the reviews section. vndb.org should be your main source for all info about these games. Many Japanese devs have no idea it exists and the ones who found out were thrilled! It is the most up to date source in the world for these kinds of games.

In addition to that, LewdGamer specializes in reporting on upcoming releases of erotic games. That news site has been helpful for keeping me abreast on the latest English-speaking hentai games.

Zimerius: In the Netherlands we have a saying. "The exception confirms the rule".

For example. My friends grandfather smokes without having any health problems. Smoking is not bad for you.

Wrong!

Smoking is bad, in general, some people can smoke for their entire lives without seemingly having too much trouble with it. This does not mean that you can't say that smoking is not a bad habit, because it is.

I hope you can forgive my late reaction. I simply missed the question
This is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard in my life. Out of millions of people who have played violent video games, how many of committed violence? We might as well ban all sports to prevent all injuries from ever happening, ban cars to prevent car accidents, and impose a buying limit of groceries so people don't get diabetes.Get over yourself.

If hentai games caused people to rape minors at an unprecedented rate, it'd already be another epidemic society would have to contend with. But alas, it's not because it's not a problem.

Me jerking off to these hentai games has absolutely no effect on YOUR life. I've been jerking off to these games since 2010 and it hasn't affected your life so far, so please mind your own damn business.

@ Seryuu or JAST USA team, please ignore all feedback from these naysayers. They're staunch idiots who can't mind their own business and need to open their mouth every time these games get any sort of attention because they've got nothing going on in their lives so they have to tear down on games and their fans to make up for the void in their lives.

I didn't see anyone confirm this yet: the game is unlisted/blocked from Australia.

Oddly enough it's not in the news either...I wonder if the laws got changed again to ban anime-styled characters.
Or is it full of underage (18-) schoolgirls and people are just being defensive as usual?

But you're actually wrong. All of the women in this game are adult heroines, since it has the "only adult heroines" on VNDB.

This tag is exceedingly rare. I haven't seen it on many VN's, to be honest.

Hasnt there been a few more games banned recently?

I really dont understand how fictional characters can be underage
Is a young elf also underage ?
These ones look young in appearance but are already quite old
18 Human Years = 90 Elf Years
And it can be done in reverse with division:
102 Elf Years = 20.4 Human Years

And what about Dragons that can shapeshift to human forms
they are underage as well because they look young in appearence?
when 5 years has passed something strange happens to dragons in the fantasy realm
5 human years = 15 dragon years
10 human years = 16 dragon years
20 human years = 17 dragon years
40 human years = 18 dragon years

Dwarfes then?
This is an attempt at calculating equivalent ages for Dwarves and Men in Tolkien's works, based primarily on information given in The Lord of the Rings and The Peoples of Middle-earth (HoME-12). The relevant facts are:

Dwarves reached maturity at about age 40.
Humans are assumed to reach maturity at about age 20.
The average lifespan of Dwarves was about 250 years.
The average lifespan for Men (non-Númenorean) of Middle-earth was about 70 years.

From this I developed the following formulae for age conversion, where D is the Dwarf age and H the human age:
Juvenile: D = H * 2
Adult: D = ((H - 20) * ((250 - 40) / (70 - 20))) + 40
= (H * 4.2) - 44

The following table shows approximate equivalent ages between Men and Dwarves. It should be noted, however, that Dwarves age very differently from Men. After reaching maturity at about age 40, Dwarves show almost no change due to aging until about 10 years before death; the entire transition into old age occurs during that last decade. So, while there is a significant change in a Man from age 30 to age 60, a Dwarf would change very little between the equivalent ages of 82 and 208, and would not begin to show age-related decline until, on average, age 240 (equivalent to about 68 for a Man.) The lifespan of most Dwarves who died of natural causes clustered closely around the 250-year mark. There were exceptions, however; Dwalin is recorded as having lived 340 years.
Man Dwarf
5 10
10 20
15 30
20 40 (maturity)
25 61
30 82
There are more examples than this that show
that comparing real world issuies with fantasy seldom works well
The author coud have wrote about long lived humans and so on
If a human lived for 900 years or something like that in a fictional book the age of 20 woud be considered to be quite young
real humans does not slow down their age rating as dragons do after the age of 5 and so on

And lara croft must be an immortal or something
25 years has passed and she was already an adult when the first game got out but she doesnt show any hint in age whatsoever
so woud an anime loli character still be considerd underage when the artist created it 30 years ago?
And if not, what if the artist contunied to use the same character but she didnt age in other works he created
still underage despite the fact that over 30 years has gone since the the characters first appereance?

denormative: It's probably a licensing things, but I've suffered from this for years, and can only get their games via torrents.
Jast have officially gone on record as saying it's a legal requirement, not licensing. They, like Mangagamer, Johren, and others, IP block their sites because they have uncensored images on it. If they wanted to, they could sell in Japan -- indeed some of the games these companies have the rights to are sold in Japan on Steam, it's just the adult patches that remain IP blocked (even when those patches are compliant with Japanese law). Again, the reason being that the site the patches are hosted on is not compliant with Japanese law.

The law is outdated and hard to enforce with any entity outside Japan. Jast only IP block because they don't want their Japanese partners to be indirectly accused of breaking Japanese law.

But given how social media makes access to uncensored porn in Japan so easy, this law really should be abolished. But doing that would deny a golden parachute to aged politicians.

Now, Crunchy Roll, on the other hand, IP block their site because they're hiding something. They even block news articles that are about events in the Japanese market, which would indicate they're not doing it for legal reasons. But then, CR has a rep in Japan among some in the industry as being highly suspect.

Lodium: Japanese logic doesnt make sense in a lot of cases.
The reason ive heard is that Japanese companys want to sell to their own market before going international
they argue that this will gain them more money beacuse the games are already in Japanese...
I don't put any stock in what Japanese companies claim. They want to sell to the Japanese market? Yet intentionally keep prices high to the point of strangling their own market reach. They even go so far as to recall all unsold stock. Brand new, sealed, never touched, perfect condition stock and they pay another company to destroy it. They don't even consider reducing the price to attract the audience share that generally waits to buy cheaper second hand copies. Nope. They'd rather lose profit by paying to destroy their stock.

The vast majority of my eroge collection comes from this unsold stock. My wife works at one of the companies that is used to destroy it. And for a while, employees at that company were allowed to "rescue" items as long as they never sold them.

That was until an employee was caught selling the stock. They were fired, the rules were tightened. Now lots of perfect condition games are destroyed without a chance of being placed into the hands of someone who would appreciate them.

Lodium: But i thougth Jast or steam had to comply with the japanese laws surrounding erotic art/adult stuff at least.
Valve don't even understand Japanese law. They are breaking it every day simply by letting people buy CERO Z rated games with Steam wallet funds. How do Valve get away with it? Because CERO isn't technically the correct ratings board for Japanese PC games. That would be ECOS. And if Valve recognised ECOS, they could sell far more eroge on the platform in Japan. But they don't. And yet, there are plenty of games (from non-Japanese publishers) sold uncensored on Steam which are most certainly in violation of the indecency law regardless of which rating board the publisher claims they submitted to. Valve don't actually seek proof of submission, which too, is a grey area, and part of the reason CERO got pissy with Ubisoft when AC Valhalla was released.

The PC version of AC Valhalla is uncensored and was never submitted to CERO. As such, displaying the CERO rating was in violation of CERO regulations -- companies have to pay a significant amount to CERO for ratings.

So yeah, when it comes to ratings, and the law in Japan, Valve are clueless.

Destroying stock that is unsold.... wow, if thats not bad for the environment i dont know what is
i coud understand it if the stock was damaged alot or had been a long time in storage withouth being sold even with price reduction , but i must say im honestly shocked i didnt imagine they did that
Destroying coud also actually be bad for presevration or the abilty to search up an old title
if there was sold a low number of copys and the majority of stock got destroyed it migth be possible some information of a game, merchandise etc get lost to time

This was new information to me

Very detailed breakdown. I didn't actually *say* the game had underage characters. I asked a question, because a lot of people seem to think that somehow school uniforms don't count, when the only people who wear them are underage or pretending to be.
In Australia the laws are (to my knowledge) that if a character looks underage or is canonically underage, then they are underage. 4000 year old lolis look underage and are therefore illegal (and fair enough, it's a silly excuse). Ageing them up is still illegal because canonically they are underage (this is dumb). Combine that with dumb boomers who think "big eyes + innocence = underage", and you've got a problem. Considering all of that, they are actually really lenient. If they really wanted to, they could use the laws to be A LOT more restrictive, and ban pretty much anything anime related that shows a bit of skin.

Anyway, TheGrimLord already said that there are only adult characters in this game, so I guess it's probably got rape or drugs or one of the other things that gets games "refused classification". In which case it's ok for an Australian to be found with it in their possession, they just can't be sold the game :)

Austrslian laws on that area doesnt make any sense to me
Thanks for the information
The more I hear about the dystopian hell that Australia is, the happier I am that I'm not there. If I were there, I'd just fucking move. To hell with all the censorship and the other shit that's going on there, not to mention giant spiders and everything else that wants to kill you. I'm good on that, thanks.

Also GOG, where the hell is the game? It's been out a week on Jast already.
