Cats are crazy mind-controller animals.
A pair of meows and purrs and you're mesmerized for good.
Sorry dude, you are doomed XD

^yep this is my Ginger too when it comes to bugs. She can suck down a mosquito eater in a second flat. I do not even have time to get up to try to save it. (I am one to try to take the bugs outside before they become a snack.)

I do with the crickets or grasshoppers, but flies, mice. and other insects...that's what they are there for. Let them do their job.

Ginger is inside only so thankfully no experiences with mice. Although she has alerted me to a garden snake in the kitchen sink before and 2 birds (different times) that somehow got in and stuck behind the fireplace. Sadly for her. She got locked in the bathroom until I was able to able to get the birds outside, I also had to get my Dad to remove the pipe to get the snake and take it outside.

Jekadu: Are you absolutely sure pets are your thing? This is gonna sound horribly judgemental, but when your animals start hiding from you out of fear, that's bordering on animal abuse. Cats are not dogs - what works for dogs might only confuse and frighten the cat, and vice versa.
With them hiding because they don't want to get thrown out, I wouldn't really qualify that as abuse. If they whine the moment they see me, yeah that's probably abuse. I always try to give them warnings and they know it's coming; And it's not like I'm kicking them. Although that does bring up a really bad set of lines I could use while using the phones in korea since everything is tapped...

A moth got into the house last night. My cat actually loved that thing. I never saw my cat so active, but I don't think she ever caught it. It was humorous to watch when my cat saw the moth go into the corner near my coat rack and the moth somehow evaded my cats keen eyes and was flying back towards me. My cat is staring in the corner, starts chirping looking for it, so being the nice owner I am I call her and point it out for her. Cats are humorous to watch when they are on the prowl.

Reminds me of being in North Carolina years ago... On base housing, nice...
Anyways, a hanging bed for the cat set up by the window, and workers outside raking and weeding and using leaf blowers, and a leaf blows into the corner of the window. The cat naturally HAS to try and attack it through the glass, and you know now matter how much she fights for it she won't get the leaf or get rid of it... Funnier when it was rattling because the leaf blower was vibrating it (but it didn't want to leave the corner) making her even more ornery and intent on getting it than before...
