CymTyr: Well... it finally happened on the 17th of December, 2021:

https://www.tweaktown.com/news/83587/goldman-sachs-has-more-voting-rights-in-cd-projekt-than-cdpr-president/index.html

EDIT: Okay so there's people with more power in the company than Goldman Sachs, but still. It was bound to start happening sooner or later.
Rip.

Sorry, but I do not plan on boycotting GOG.com as it is my only reliable source of DRM-Free games. On the contrary, I plan on purchasing more games from GOG to help them financially so they won't go out of business or quit selling DRM-Free games.

mrkgnao: ...nor do I consider what I do pirating. I have bought (or been gifted) all the games I play. They are mine and I can do anything I wish with them (e.g. replace DLLs).

tfishell: I agree.
Add me to that agreement :)

Side note/to the thread:

I am still not boycotting & still on the sympathetic list, but I am tempted ever more to join the boycott every so often by various things.....like the ever shrinking list of things we are allowed to talk about on the forums.

(I recently got told it is more or less verboten to talk about 'the sickness that shall not be named' on the forums)

What does a store have to do for you to consider it to be reliable? There are other stores that have DRM-free games.

I am a lurker showing my support.

I decided to start boycotting GoG for a multiple of reasons, mainly porn games.

I will not:

Buy any games from GoG
Use GoG Galaxy
Play any games on my account (ouch)
Visit the website besides the forums
Probably something else i forgot

Even I have to say this is getting quite ridiculous at this point.

Overall this thread is ridiculous at this point. Any actual good will that it may had at the beginning devolved into a bunch of ego boosting and virtue signalling.

Actually, you should play games from GOG, download them and play them. You paid for them already and when you download them, it costs money for GOG. Same thing goes with using the site, costs some tiny amount of money for GOG when you use their services. Just don't give them the pleasure of using the GOG Client (I forget the name).

Don't agree with your main reason, but then again, I have no idea what sort of porn games, or games at all GOG has been releasing this year.

Or you're just helping their investors instead.

Is this yet more overreach responsible for topics disappearing?

Gog doesn't have any real "porn" games. At best they're titillation for teenagers. The worst was some video scenes in subverse.

GlorFindel: Oh, I see how the "Rep Trolls" are working hard on this thread lately.

But, no matter, I vote for A, as I did before and suggest the name of new thread to be "Boycotting GOG 2022-20XY"

And on a side note: I came with name for that possible new thread, when my parents, who are now in early 70s, wrote their names on our family grave with year of their birth, which is 1949 with "-" in the middle and 20 and two empty spaces, so we (my brother and I) can just add the last two numbers.

It's also, fitting for GOG, as currently GOG is on a downward spiral to its own death!
I'm not even boycotting, I just dislike limits on my use of a software so I don't use Galaxy, and I'm strongly opposing too much involvement of someone who just wants revenues and is not in the gaming or at least game-selling branch (so vague news of large stock of CDPR bought by pure-financial Goldman-Sachs is a bad factor to me, much more than a single GoG new policy or limit on users).
Why don't simply omit the year? You've been discussing an opinion, not an event.
And why not soften it a bit converting this to "User complaints about this service" instead? Boycott is always extreme, kinda like a divorce. You first try to discuss, to step back, then to argue. It's stil my beloved GoG, it's just turned quite sour recently.

I agree. You're just redeeming previous purchases, in a way so that you don't always need the vendor's approval in the future, also.
It's just symbolic and...pointless. Here, we have a saying about these over-the-top, frankly holier-than-thou approach that visibly backfires on the side that's already unhappy: "hurting yourself to make your partner sorry" (loose translation of a more nasty original).
You don't have to

Don't wanna say too much(don't want another vacation for "disputing staff"), so i'll just say this:

I made two threads on the coof(co-vid) to allow people to share info/experiences & boost morale among my fellow goggers during these trying times. The first one disappeared so I figured it was trolls abusing the forum functions & made another. That one was also removed and I got a PM from CM Sarafan saying that they removed the threads as they might cause bad emotions and that they (supposedly) also contained "misinformation". They also then said any future ones would be deleted(which is odd, as they lock nearly every other rule breaking thread), and asked me not to make any more.

All I know is, the first thread (at worst) had one user (possibly jokingly) calling the MSM satanic, and the second thread just had people wishing Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas and one user posting a few CDC links....make of all that what you will.

(if anyone wants to ask anything further about the above issue, one can feel free to ask here or PM....either way, I will likely reply mainly by PM so as to stay within site rules, for obv. reasons)

Alas, truth is often scarier than propaganda, if in very different ways. Also, more important. I appreciate you letting people know what's going on.

GamezRanker: Afaik cdp/cdpr were making good money from The Witcher games before they went public...
While the PC games sold well, a dispute over a console port almost bankrupted CDPR back in 2009.

And people have been complaining about the lack of moderation in these forums for so long... :)

In fairness, this is (and should remain) a gaming-orientated discussion area and topics on inflammatory issues like politics, race or the current pandemic are, at the very least, going to require more moderator oversight. They're perfectly within their rights to lower their workload by restricting such threads and there are plenty of other forums that people can discuss/debate/vent in.

This may not be a bad thing. Goldman Sachs is likely to be savvy enough to appreciate GOG's Unique Selling Point (DRM-free) and that it doesn't have a hope of competing with Steam, Epic, etc without this USP. So they should consider backsliding on this in a very negative light.

Well as of now I am moving it offsite(the order came from higher ups, so there's nothing I can do)...still, thanks for the appreciation. :)

Interesting...thanks for the background info.
That aside, I believe they did make decent money for their future games.....enough that they could use some of it to keep Gog afloat.

Just wanted to say that I always disliked this saying/mindset in general......i.e. "there's some place else, go post/etc there". Yeah, there is usually some other place to discuss such things, but it can be a pain in the posterior to have to "go somewhere else" for certain discussions & not all users of one forum/site might want to follow someone to another site/forum to continue various discussions.

Hey everyone: sorry for going incommunicado and not sorting out the voting results yet. I've been extremely busy over the past few days, since I've been travelling internationally over the holidays, visiting family. I thought I would have a spare hour to sort this thread out, but didn't. I'll be flying back tomorrow and should have a couple of clear days, so will get it sorted soon.
