B1tF1ghter: Wait, driver SAN FRANCISCO was here?
I guess I must have missed it then :/
edit: fixed something
albinistic: I meant that Ubisoft stopped licensing the game and is not available in any digital stores and now only purchasable in shady code shops or physical copies. That means it is now almost a guaranteed to never come to GOG. :(
Oh, well the D SF predicament in Ubi store is rather bizzare.
Hopefully it will get resolved SOMEDAY and then MAYBE we could MAYBE get it here.
B1tF1ghter: You and many others are trying to discredit Valve and dismiss everything positive they have done and keep doing for the industry, out of pure hate, and you completely ignore that they forced industry into some actual STANDARDS.
dtgreene: No, I'm saying that the drawbacks outweigh the positives, enough for me to not consider that particular store an option.
Then just have the courage to say that it is like that for you and you just don't want to buy there instead of making up sh*t to try to make them look bad.
They DON'T "encourage DRM". That was a pure lie on your part.
As for the "choices of stores". That's ok, you have the right to your own opinion and so do I. But please don't make accusations up.
TomNuke: GOG is the best place to buy games hands down.
1.I disagree. There are some better places for the same niche (don't confuse that with "same size catalouge"), ones that for example don't abandon their core principles (AKA "lie to customers")
2.You must have missed the fact that MANY games here have outdated offline installers compared with Galaxy-based installs for the very same games. "Coincidentially" this clashes with TOS text of "Galaxy is ALWAYS optional" which it is clearly NOT now since to get the most uptodate experience for quite some games here you have to use it.
TomNuke: Offline mode? It's trash. You have to be online to actually start offline mode, do you not?
Don't you have to be online to download the game first?
You can also use Goldberg and the likes, and while not official it is certainly an option.
TomNuke: This is the same Valve that said that aggressive DRM being the reason for having a negative review is considered an "off-topic" review and therefor thrown out, and not counted. Basically you can't leave a negative option about DRM that affects your purchase.
Technically this is correct because there are actual guidelances for reviews there and it's people's fault for not reading that the review is supposed to review the game itself and not it's launching protections.
If you have a problem with DRM you should make rucuss in game-specific sub-forum instead of poisoning the review pool which in turn malforms the positive/negative ratio making it seem like GAME CONTENT is worse than it is according to averaged opinion.
TomNuke: Valve is a shit company, and they want developers to do whatever they want as long as they make Valve money. They don't even care about Steam. It's like a literal landfill where you have to wade through filth to find something you want. Valve puts very little work in, has a very low number of employees, and collect an outrageous royalty split in the process. They let anyone self publish whatever asset flips, shovelware, porn, whatever they want, while Valve sits back doing little to nothing.
You gave me a quote disection goldmine here.
You are wrong in basically every part.
But considering what kind of attitude you show here I won't comment on this BSerry because you would likely ignore facts again.
TomNuke: Every game I've bought since has been on GOG (...) I feel good about supporting this platform, and I feel like I own what I buy and have total control over it. You know, that they're not just on a rental service. Which Valve themselves have openly said that Steam is a rental service with "lifetime" rentals.
You can thank somewhat retarded EU DIGITAL software resale laws for that.
Also, "by the way" (yet another thing you missed eh?), GOG is actively refining their TOS and store and it does seem less like you own anything over time.
They for example removed "100%" from "100% DRM-free" everywhere.
TomNuke: No GOG = No Buy. **** Steam and **** Valve.
Oh, so you care about specificly getting things on GOG?
And not "*true* DRM free first and foremost"?
Good for you. I have a different approach then.
TomNuke: And while I guess you could argue that Valve doesn't encourage DRM, but it's also very true that they don't discourage it either.
I think you completely missed the news.
GOG no longer discourages developers from using DRM.
There was a statement from a blue posted in another thread, and there's even a quote in OP of this one.
