WildHobgoblin: Hey, glad to hear you got it to work :)
I'm a bit late getting posting back. I was surprised I got it to work. much of it was guessing..
Book728: I left the saved games in the game I was playing before I deleted all the old Dreamfall chapters games - was that how the fresh game I just downloaded yesterday came up with Book 5?
WildHobgoblin: Yes. Because you left your old savegames intact, after the fresh install the game "knew where to look". It checked for saves, found them, and bumped you to the beginning of Book 5.
That's what I thought.
Book728: Now when I finish game 5 and if I wanted to start the game over, would I need to delete the old saved games from the new game I am presently playing in order to start at Book 1?
I
WildHobgoblin: I haven't actually finished Dreamfall, so you might need another user's input, but it's very, very unlikely that will be necessary. Once you get to the end, the game should offer you an option like "start new game", which will then automatically overwrite (meaning: it will delete the old savegame info and replace it with the new information) your save without you having to do anything else. It would be another matter if you wanted to
keep your old savegame for whatever reason. If you wanted to do that, you'd have to do exactly as before - make a copy of the savegame folder and store it somewhere else (desktop, for example, or a separate folder in documents etc).
I found out what happens after I finished Book 5. The next time I clicked on "Dreamfall chapters", when I clicked on "New game" instead of my usual "Continue" on the menu, it listed Games 1 to 5 so if I wanted to, I could start the game from Book One. But to start fresh with no saves, I would have to delete all the saves I used for Book 5.
I see you are playing Dreamfall chapters. I thought it was a good game.in general. But as with many games, I found some parts I liked better than others.
Book728: P.S. Ive never used Gog installer. I just used my browser IE 11, so I think I would have to download a game more than once if I deleted the entire game and wanted to start the game over. .
WildHobgoblin: There's really no need to learn about Gog installer if the browser download works well for you. Gog is slowly dropping support for the downloader, anyway. I was merely assuming your download might have been corrupt (it has happened to me once or twice while using the browser to download). The browser (like the downloader) will still download the actual files to some place (for me, it's users>username>downloads), so if those files are not broken and you haven't manually deleted them, you can always use them to reinstall the game. If you did delete them, then yes, you'll have to download them again for installing. Those two work independently of one another: you download the installer, the installer installs the game ;) The game can then be played and doesn't need the installer at all anymore. Thus, you can delete either of those (game or installer) and the other one will still be functional.
The browser is quite slow and I don't have a high usage amount, but gets there eventually, but I use it because I at least know how it works. Thanks for your and others input.
