I mean at the time TBC is to WOW the same as how Lords of Destruction was to Diablo 2, Frozen Throne was to Wacraft 3, and Brood War was to Starcraft 1.

Sure, I'd agree with the second part. However "that atmosphere" for me is relative to Warcraft 3. I don't know about you, but I became a huge fan of the Warcraft vibe/atmoshpere (call it what you will) starting with the first RTS game, and it culminated for me with Warcraft 3. With each sequel they changed the atmosphere a little, and I consider Warcraft 3 as the pinnacle of the Warcraft universe. It's that universe that I wanted to explore in WoW, and the vanilla zones allowed me to do just that.
There's nothing inherently wrong with TBC, it's just that it looks and feels too different relative to what I personally identify as the unique Warcraft vibe. And I simply don't like it as much. The fact that it's connected to the RTS games lore wise, and even location wise, does not alleviate that. The very first TBC zone does look a bit like one/two of the levels in Frozen throne though, but that's it.

I bought the collectors' editions of World of Warcraft and every expansion up to, and including, Warlords of Draenor. Yet, I haven't even broken the plastic covers off Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor, and I practically stopped playing before I had gone far into The Burning Crusade. Yeah, I started a couple death knights and goblins, and pretty much just went through those starting areas, then I took a short sight-seeing tour to see some of the changes of the land that happened with Cataclysm. After that, nothing.

While I would love going back to Azeroth, the Eastern Kingdoms, and even Draenor/Outland, I would also like a single-player focused campaign.

Also, similar to Matewis, I got excited for the release of World of Warcraft because of the chance to explore Warcraft III from a first-person perspective, and the game I got into back then has changed too much through the years.

I liked the themes of those zones in theory, but the implementation was weak. Aside from the fact that the desert area would've been more interesting with a cultural/historical mix rather than being purely psuedo-Egypt, the biggest issue was that every Cataclysm zone's story/questline was entirely on rails and you had to finish each one in its entirety in order to access basic/critical gameplay elements. Earlier expansions also had required storylines but they were only a part of each zone with lots of optional/side content wheras the Cata stuff pretty much required 100% zone clears and was MUCH more in-your-face about that fact.

The oceanic area suffered from another problem: whoever was assigned to write the on-rails/required story thought it would be hilarious to portray the player character as inept every step of the way AND have the NPCs constantly crack jokes about it. Brilliant decision, there.

I can't remember that so well, but it seems about right. I do remember being bored out of my skull finishing overly long quest lines in Cataclysm, especially in the desert and underwater zones. I don't think I would've continued doing them unless I was somehow obliged to.

So just Blizzard being Blizzard? They're asshole company that treat their customers like shit for at least... Four? years now? What is going to be after next expansion? Another milion or so down? Oh and don't forget that half players now pay for premium with gold, not with real cash. I really hope that some day Activision will look at their finances coming from Blizzard and decide it's not worth to support anymore.

Too true. Even though i don't give a rat's ass about wow, i just got my free expansion upgrade, my 90 level character boost, i entered the game only to whack a mob or two (to see that "wow" skills/spells) and troll the other players, then quit again.

Blizzard must be becoming desperate. Free expansion upgrades and free character max level boosts? How come this old fart is still alive? (wow, new type of beggar, the beggar who bribes you!!!)
