ScummVM will need files from the CDs as well as files from the games installed directory.

Also I dont know if AdventureSofts store will still work (as they are pretty much defunct now) So i'd advise against buying from them. (I got my boxed copy from ebay)

snowkatt: yeah i thought so too after we derailed two threads already

bladerunner is playable
the native resolution is a bit small but if you set the guest to full screen mode it should be just fine
( its like stepping back in to a time machine oddly enough )

my settings for my virtual machines are
1.9 gig of ram
a 512 mb video card
with the main windows resolution being 1024x768
3D graphics accelerated
vmware addition installed
windows xp home edition sp1 upgraded to sp2

your mileage may vary

and sadly i have so many games to play
i walked away with 20 games during the last steam sale including several resi evils

i dont have sim city 3000 though just 4
Hmmm the settings for your virtual machine is close to that of my laptop lol. I might have to wait until I have a proper desktop rig again :P

Simcity 4 is definitely vastly superior overall, but SC3000 still has a certain something that makes it special. That and I'm expecting an intense nostalgia trip. Also, the game should be easier to run. SC4 becomes a bit of a resource hog as a city becomes larger.
I'm dead serious about it though. Personally I think BR is among the best adventure games ever made and still today vastly more playable than some of the other games that are claimed classics.

Of course it's not fully void of problems, but as a whole it has endured time extremely well.

tomimt: Blade Runner is one of the best, if not the best adventure game made in the 90's. Sadly though, despite it runs perfectly well under modern OS's, it might be up to licensenses why it hasn't been released. I do wonder who even owns the game rights, considering the overall rights for Blade Runner the movie were a mess back in the 90's, so I wouldn't be surprised if the game licensing is owned by some other party.

On a side note, while the game does look pretty good, it would be nice to see those backgrounds and game cinematics rendered in full HD glory. And as the characters were done with voxels, it would be nice to see them done with more detailed 3D as well.

Still, it's a great game as is and if you ever get a change to play it, I can fully recommend it. It even has pretty modern approach on adventure game design, as there's no typical adventure game traps in it.
You have my support for that statement :) More than that even, since it's my personal alltime favorite video game, let alone favorite adventure game.

But I don't think a full hd render of the environments will necessarily work well. The 'fuzzy' versions in the game manages to make it look more authentic. Take a look at the non-fuzzy screens from the game here:

Fairfox: ...
To meee, as a non-hy-ge adventure peep, all of these are comparable if you remove teh atmosphere part of Blade Runner and just go with teh gameplay. Bladey isn't a trad. point 'n' clicker and teh branching isn't very good.
In the same way Danny Devito is comparable to Usain Bolt on the track if you cut off Bolt's legs :P

its rather bemusing when a virtual machine is similarily specced with your actual machines isnt it ?
though im sure your laptop is better then my virtual machine
afteral it runs on actual hardware
a virtual machine is still just a virtual machine

the games cant actually acces or use my geforce gt 730 directly

markrichardb: An old big boxed version lurks in my wardrobe. The game was ground-breaking in many ways, expanding on voxel technology to not only produce 3D characters without the use of a 3D accelerator, but make the game feel smoother than a replicant’s arse. Visually it still holds up.

And that’s not even getting into the gameplay and atmosphere. There’s a moment where Ray steps onto his cramped apartment balcony with the sound of perpetual rain beating down around him, and then the Blade Runner Blues begins playing. This game absolutely nails it. I’ve always thought it deserved a bigger place in gaming history, but by 1997 the point & click adventure genre that had once ruled the world was going out of fashion. Westwood weren’t just ‘that Command and Conquer developer’, they had major talent, and Bladerunner stands tall as one of the best movie-based games.
The highlight of my gaming career. It still gives me the chills.

Yeah, but I probably have it beat on raw cpu power. And full hd resolution of course :) My fried desktop would also have kicked the virtual machine's ass, when its 5870 was still alive that is :P

could it kick my actual computers ass on raw cpu power then ? ;p

its a i5 core 4670 3,39ghz ;p

The fuzziness does add some more texture to the graphics, that's for sure, especially after seeing those uncompressed renders. If they'd ever to make it in full HD, they would have to at minumun, besides re-rendering everything, re-texture the scenes as well. The texture quality is nicely put a bit low on those pictures.

Uhmm, no, mine would run and hide in the bushes next to that :P Honestly I can't really remember what exactly it was. I'd love to check, but the last time I attempted to use the pc it actually managed to freeze in, wait for it... BIOS...

...my god that is bad

my pc is fairly recent so i am not keen to upgrade any time soon

but there are ...limitations
its a slimline so my video cards have to be low profile

but even worse hewlett packard in their infinite wisdim* decide upon a proprietary psu design and connector and an upper limit of 320 watt
and i have the 320 watt psu ( * no that is not a typo)

otherwise this is a great machine

I'm impressed that you can manage with a 320 watt honestly. But I do remember reading/hearing that at some point a several years ago power requirements for gpu went down a bit without sacrificing performance (could be a bs story though). My fried desktop pc has a, I believe, 650 watt psu or something like that.
Just remembered the name, it's a thermaltake. A really good one with detachable cables (never ever ever buying a psu without that feature again!) that I hope I can use again when I finally scrounge up enough moolah to buy a new rig :P

well the problem is i cant go for a high powered video card i dont have the room or the watts needed
an radeon 7770 needs to run on a 400 watt psu at the very least
and my psu cant provide that or risk a brown out at best
and im not going to hork up x amount of money for a card i cant use

so i need low power cards with passive cooling
kind of a shame really because this machine is excellent otherwise

but the geforce 730 does the job well enough i have no complaints
having a 3.39 ghz haswell with 12 gig of ram im sure helps a bit too
