To the practical surprise of nobody.
The confused gasps, the strange headtilts, the "Why are you making a prequel to this game", all who cried out; there's more reactions behind the announcement that a game called "2" was actually occurring before 1. I don't know what made the entire industry so afraid of sequential storytelling, but I'd like to take a moment to misblame Final Fantasy 7 and Kingdom Hearts.
But of course, given the sort of bloated shambler trend chaser that Ubisoft has become, is it really a surprise that their attempt to create an MMO GaaS MTX [Insert Buzzword of the day calendar] from a single player experience in 2003 really just isn't working?
My apologies to anyone who was actually expecting this, but you should have known better. Ubisoft is the epitome of "Too Many Chefs", and this along with so many other projects & commercial failures has done nothing to sway their course.
