Go ahead. After my first ever attempt to play KH last week I'm convinced it's one the worst games ever made, just absolute trash, so I'm ok with it being blamed for just about anything :D

What's the worst part about it? The gameplay, the story or the characters?

Well, I'd say gameplay since after almost 5 hours of gameplay I've yet to really see anything worth being called "story" or "characters" :P

The gameplay is just terrible - the combat is boring as hell, it's just endlessly mashing one attack with endless, respawning waves of samey enemies. Using magic is crap since aiming sucks, and the controlls are just crap in general. There's not even a way to quickly use a health potion. You have to navigate a bunch of menus in real time while fighitng. Instead of one dedicated button for healing it's something like five or six buttons to find and use the potion.

And other than combat there is just boring "find X things" and come back, made into as much of a chore as possible. I mean, on the very first island where you start you spend three fucking in-game days collecting fruit, coconuts and some other shit. Even when you get to oneo f the Disney worlds, Wonderland, what do you do? Find three pieces of evidence of Alice's innocence for the trial by the Queen of Hearts. And while that may sound interesting, it's actually just going into a couple of rooms and picking up three nondescript boxes that you're told contain that evidence.

And the story and characters are just bizarre. As far as I can tell the story is just a huge rip-off of Neverending Story, with Darkness eating up imaginary lands, just with characters from Disney and Final Fantasy. But really, the storytelling and worldbuilding are so poor it's hard to tell anything for sure. Some of the FF characters from different games are now kids and live together on an island? Mickey is a king of some medieval land and Donald is a wizard? I have no idea, no foundation.

I checked the website and the last time they ever gave the community news was June 2020. I've never played Beyond Good and Evil, but I've herd great things about it. And the early gameplay for the prequel sequel doesn't look all too bad.
Seeing this news doesn't surprise me though. Everyone thinks it's vaporware and I'm sure you all do too. The only release of this game we'll probably ever get is a torrent on some site 10 years after it was announced as cancelled.

Tired; Anyone give me a quick rundown of what's going on? So like the opposite Baldur's Gate 2/Fallout 2/Planescape Torment? Might check it out, could be interesting

Why? Lots of people love to talk about things that don't exist, but in this case it may also have a chance of existing.

Right, talking about things that for some reasons don't get finished is such a waste of time. Just look at that fascinating, acclaimed documentary about Jodorovsky's Dune! Total waste of time. And it's not like there's a whole book about games that were canceled. Nothing to see here! Amok has spoken :D
