No doubt they hope that by tying DOOM up with this shit they're going to establish enough of a user base to make it viable. But given how buggy, unstable and generally featureless clients usually are on release and how demanding a game like DOOM is going to be for multiplayer, in terms of things like matchmaking etc, this has potential to really implode dramatically.
Given how Bethesda won't even release anything on GOG that is newer than 12 years old, I'd say that the Bethesda-GOG relationship will remain every bit as wonderfully stagnant as it is today.
