Acriz: So I can choose between the nice string and ambient sounds of Tomb Raider and the 90s techno soundtrack of Schleichfahrt (Archimedean Dynasty). How do you decide between those 2? They are so different and do completely different things to the listener. This is why I am never a fan of voting for the 'Best of' something.
You are of course free not to vote - the thread is for talking about your faves while the poll gets more people to post.

ResidentLeever: Edit: So what format is neverhood using then?
Some digital music format obviously. Who knows what they stuffed into those data files. Not sure how does this affect your picks tho.
Neverhood unfortunately is too obscure to compete with the likes of Quake or Red Alert anyway...

When talking about OSTs, I feel more like a fat kid in a candy shop: I take some of those some of these and a few pieces of that!
The late 80s and 90s were the golden age of soundtracks, there's tons of good stuff.

I know (again), I'm asking what since it was important for you to point out it doesn't use CD audio. If it's not cd audio I need to add it to the streaming audio list instead but the specific file format is lower priority.

Totally agree!

Archimedean Dynasty reminds me of Commander Blood/Captain Blood 2 a bit. Besides the more ebm/industrial tracks.

I was merely answering on that you didn't go through CDDA soundtracks. Or whatever..
Yet Archimedean Dynasty does use Red Book. So I'm still unsure what's it all about re formats.

Just asking for the lists on the site, it was originally focused only on sequenced/chiptune music and I recently added cd audio and streaming OSTs separately. Except for PC where I hadn't decided what to do with streaming audio yet. Will split off the PC ones later on, I have to check all of those properly.

AD appears to use streaming for the logo and menus (basic ambient music and ambient sfx only). Then redbook in-game:

That channel uploads games without the cd audio music for some reason, so I was able to tell those apart that way.

Well in case of AD I always thought about it as a CDDA game.
Also some games used say MIDI *or* CDDA optionally for what was sometimes very different soundtracks. Blood comes to mind.

Sure I would agree. The streaming part is very minor, just pointing it out since I had checked that one :)

I'll keep that in mind for Blood.

Noticed Red Alert too but as much as I like Klepacki, I consider Red Alert 1 and Tiberian Sun as his weakest C&C entries. But Red Alert 2 is 100% winning its year :P
RA1 would be my fave of his and I also dig Dune 2000. Updated the OP, revote if you went with War2.

This is the first year I've gone off list with my vote:

Geoff Crammond's Formula One Grand Prix 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUpD3IdQt1U

It's a bit of a left field choice - you only get music in the intro and menus, but it really works for the game (especially the way paddock sounds are layered on to the track)
I picked Descent 2 as it has a couple of exceptionally good pieces of music, like:

Cold Reality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIzA1LKW5mo&list=PL2ABAB19080A2CA68&index=5

Are you Descent? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kg-jLEtY71c&list=PL2ABAB19080A2CA68&index=10
Yeah Descent 2 is good stuff as a NIN and Skinny Puppy fan.

Cool. Also that intro sounds a lot like summer of 69 lol

I had to vote for Quake, I listened to that CD a lot in my stereo, as a NIN fan.
Descent II soundtrack is great too.
