Let's get a conversation going about videogame soundtracks! In your opinion, what games have the best music? Personally, I'm a big fan of the music in Tyrian and Jazz Jackrabbit. There's just something about those old soundblaster compositions. :D
I always liked the music from the Metal Slug series, and definitely from Vigilante 8.

And DOOM! You're right about the SoundBlaster, I remember listening to the Humongous Entertainment games' music for hours.

Sands of Time.
A few i enjoy off the top of my noggin.

Morrowind.
X - beyond the frontier.
Parodius.
More recently Lords of Xulima, Tales of Maj'Eyal....

RPGs for the most part scratch the musical itch for myself.

I always thought that the music in Doom was pretty iconic, but it never quite fit my tastes. I always preferred other games of the era that had a more laid back sound, such as Traffic Department 2192.

Now that I think about it, the Sega Genesis also had some standout soundtracks like Vectorman and Streets of Rage.

I can totally understand. RPGs tend to have pretty great music that matches the game's atmosphere.

Witcher 3 has some great music. The Skellige Isles background music is just lovely. One of the few times I've just stopped to listen to the audio play.

Super Metroid is a pretty high water-mark too. Very atmospheric and moody and it just adds so much to the game.
Hm..

Myst II-IV are probably my favourites
Ethan Carter has a pretty good one
The Witcher
Mass Effect 2
Planescape Torment and Baldurs Gate have some fun tracks too

EDIT: oh, forgot the Bioshock games (both licensed and original stuff)

Hmm
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
Hitman Blood Money
Witcher 2
Hotline Miami
I like the Halo 1 soundtrack, and some of the tracks in Halo 2.

There are some good tracks in World of Goo including one that is somber as heck

Edit: also the music in MGR: Revengence (especially the boss tracks)

Diablo 1 & 2
Obligatory answer.

But seriously, so many games have really awesome music that fit their specific mood and feel, it's really hard for me to pick.

A few of my favourties:

Silent Hill 2

Space Quest III

Castlevania III

Dune

Ghost Trick

LJN video art -- Now that's the kind of music I want to hear more of! *shudder*

But in all seriousness, I'd have to agree that Akumajō Densetsu has a pretty great soundtrack. Of course, I still prefer the music in some of Konami's other titles like Lagrange Point (I'd post a link, but I'm not particularly tech savvy).

I've never heard that Dune soundtrack before. It's super chill!

I've always loved the underground theme from Mario, still brings a smile to my face now... :)

And practically anything from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but particularly the Gerudo Valley theme I think.

Those are the ones off the top of my head..
Bastion
Total Annihilation
Outcast
C&C Tiberian Dawn
