I was reading another thread and someone mentioned seeing a band and I started wondering what bands people have seen live. So... who have you seen, and how many times?
For me:
Rush
Signals tour in 1983(?) as an unexpected event (not that the concert was unexpected, but I didn't expect to get to go) in Scotland. This one was a blast, even though Geddy Lee lost his voice about 2/3 of the way through and they finished off with instrumentals. Bloody awesome, nevertheless.
In Vancouver in 2002 (I think that was the year) when they returned to touring after a long absence with their Vapour Trails tour. Excellent show.
Pink Floyd
Unfortunately, not the 'classic' lineup with Roger Waters, but I caught them in Vancouver in 1994 for their Division Bell tour. Fantastic show.
U2
Caught their Zoo TV tour in 1992. I was a huge fan of their Achtung Baby album and really liked The Joshua Tree (as well as a number of their earlier albums). This show was really, really stellar. Went with a buddy and we were both blown away.
Dire Straits
Their On Every Street tour in 1992(?) in Vancouver. Honestly don't remember a whole lot about that show, but I do remember Mark Knopfler's incredible guitar work.
Nazareth
Don't recall what year, and don't really remember a lot about the show, but I used to love this band. Interstingly, my buddy's brother went to Scotland the year before my buddy and I did, and he ended up playing golf with the band there (I think it may have been the St. Andrews course).
April Wine
Don't remember when I saw this iconic Canadian band, but it was many years ago when I was pretty young. They were damned good.
Huey Lewis and the News
I've no idea how I was talked into seeing these guys, and I didn't really want to go. But my buddy and his girlfriend (and her sister) were all hot and bothered to see them, so I went. Actually, a pretty decent show and there was one song where the lead guitarist went for a few minutes on a fairly long guitar solo that kicked some serious ass. Worth it for that alone.
Spirit of the West
Local band that has/had a reasonably large Canadian following. They played in the alpine on Whistler Mountain - can't recall the year, exactly, but probably 1998 or 1999. Great show and great venue. They were headlining with Gypsy Kings and some other band whom I've since forgotten (I guess they weren't that memorable. Gypsy Kings were enjoyable, but Spirit of the West were fantastic). Sad that their lead singer is suffering from Alzheimers now. Really good band.
I'll mention this one, even though it's just a small, nothing - and probably forgotten - band and I only mention it because I remember having such a great time:
Spyder (If memory serves)
Pretty average punk band I saw in Scotland (Edinburgh) with a couple buddies in a small bar. Band was okay but the venue was fantastic. Great people and we had a kick-ass good time.
There are some others that I know I'm forgetting. May fill them in later as they come to me, but that's what pops to mind right now.
'Regrets'
I passed up the chance to see Stevie Ray Vaughan in Vancouver in 1989 (didn't have the money) and he was killed in a helicopter crash about 6 months later.
Also missed out on Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull in my younger days.
Some of you music buffs must have seen a ton of shows, so lets hear about 'em.
