HunchBluntley: I think they meant showing the genre tags on the list entry for each title. Kinda like how list view in the old catalogue page used to show the star rating for each game in addition to what's there in the current iteration. (There might've been more "extra" info besides; I can't recall.) I wouldn't mind if the GOG devs brought that back, too, seeing as how there's plenty of unused space between the image and title on the left and the price info on the right -- especially when the filters sidebar is collapsed.
A tad late, and Uilos clarified further, but it was the [emphasis added] "if we could split it up some, for example sort by category/genre and such, it would be very helpful" bit that made me think they're looking for a way to narrow down the number of pages/results they get.

That aside, I agree that the space between image and title could be used to provide more info; IIRC, in the old catalogue List View, the info about genre was displayed, so it'd be nice if we could have that (back?), both in the catalogue and in the results when performing a search from the nav-bar.

Fuz: And still no word about the manual sorting.
GOG mad it very clear when they introduced the current account system that this isn't going to come back ever.

If you're on firefox, you can at least block this incredibly annoying youtube- orgy with the 'Disconnect' add-on:

What you get now, are still some blinking screenshots, if you hover over the pics, probably delivered by the goggletagmanager, which can't be blocked, but it is far better than those autoplaying vids, and I would have stopped completetely to browse this site if I couldn't do that. Maybe the gog- team should finally listen to the many, many people, who hate this abomination....

And if additionly, you're reducing the view size to 50%- 70% you get an almost, I mean almost working and nice look, small like the neck of a giraffe and only using 1/3 of your screen, but clearly arranged. What a delight for my poor mouse wheel... and my RAM...and my eyes...and my brain...

With all the changes, how is the interface for searching the game database still so limited?

kbnrylaec: I think the biggest problem, and most people asked, is the autoplay youtube videos.
Do you have any plan to fix it?
GOG finally fix the biggest problem of the new design.

Yeah, but
A) They can always change their minds
B) It's a bullshit answer. "it was beyond our reach to deliver the quality we wanted to." Bullshit, it was already perfect as it was.
I stopped buying from GOG the day they removed it (wasting hours of my time spent organizing my games' library).

The real problem with this feature was, that GOG couldn‘t find anyone who could really fuck this up and implement it with a few breaking bugs, so they had to remove it completely. Simple as that.

Please don't spread such lies. Are you saying that the same people who thoroughly screwed up the front page design and did two changes for the worse for every change for the better on the game pages (which were already worse than their previous installment if I remember the community's reaction back then) wouldn't be more than capable of finding a way to fuck up manual sorting in ways neither of us can conceive of? I call BS.

They've got some top-tier design incompetence over there, and if you challenge them like that they'll be forced to prove it. Even further, I mean.

The manual sorting already had a breaking bug, it completely stopped working when the number of games on your shelf reached a certain threshold (600-something, if I remember correctly). They couldn't (or wouldn't) fix this, so they removed the entire feature.

I wonder if it fixed or if they disabled it for the sale. Regardless, if it is going to stay that way they need to up the image resolutions. They look blurry when you hover over them because they get stretched.

Thinking that wouldn't be hard to fix even without getting around whatever resulted in that limit. Pages (different shelves, considering the look) and a "send to page (shelf)" function. Internally make the order have 2 values, page and number instead of just number, and display each page. And those with many games find those they want to move wherever they are, they send them to the page they want them on, they get automatically sorted to the top of said page, with those at the bottom moved to the next one to make room, then they go there and place them where they want them.

Yes, that would seem like a cinch to do. But maybe a feature where user can make decisions and have control of things didn't agree with their vision of what the new GOG should be, and they saw a convenient opportunity to get rid off it once and for all.

I‘m really sorry, but I thought, nobody would realise it.
But maybe they fired the people who were responsible for the current main page and hired new top men, who first need to be hit in the head with a hammer, so that they are level with the other web „designers“. And after christmas, they will start full throttle. ;-)

Yeah, maybe. We can only hope they swapped that bunch of nincompoops, and it would have to be with something better as I don't think there was anything worse available. But I'm not sure about Gog sending away the tares. It feels like the wheat is in more danger of unemployment lately... after all which group would raise concerns about the wonderful anti-consumer decisions coming from above?

Hmm now that I think about it you could be onto something here. The employee initiation (at least for some teams) could well be like you describe. It would certainly explain a lot!
Well the first entry on their list of open job positions is that of a lead web developer, so I don't think the hiring process is quite complete yet ;)

If there's anything good about the website is that they decided not to compress (minimize) javascript variable names in their code, which makes it easier to user script around. For example, my catalog page now looks like this:
