IwubCheeze: I played F:T only with the latest patch. On iron man mode, you can only save in the BOS bunkers, not during missions so you can always replay a mission provided you saved in a BOS bunker before you started the mission.
I have never tried using the Redux 1.3 mod but in the vanilla game when you create your character, you'll see a check box for ironman mode. AFAIK, you can only select iron man during character creation.
And yes, the bohemoths are nasty, I lost one man cos of those things..... :(
Frankly I don't remember if there was an ironman mode selection with the Redux mod, but I presume there was, if it was in the original as well. So apparently I chose not to use ironman mode, and I am damn glad I did.
Like those Behemoths... as said, they can kill anyone in your party, or even your whole party, with one burst shot, from quite a long range too. Killing it from a long distance with sniper rifles is not an option, as at least with non-DU ammunition, you only make 1 point of damage per shot (with a powerful 14mm sniper rifle), and Behemoth has over 1000HP I think. Not sure how much damage 14mm DU ammunition would do (it has extra penetration power), but the DU ammunition is both damn expensive and damn heavy to carry around, making it pretty much useless for real use. You can't afford it, nor can't carry much of it with you.
The only working option to kill Behemoths I've found is this (and would be impossible in ironman mode):
- Sneak near a lone Behemoth with your party (hopefully all your party members have a high Sneak skill; fortunately Behemoth's detection ability doesn't seem too good so usually you can get near it undetected).
Quick-save your game here. - Take your best shooter with either a Pulse Rifle or at least a Plasma Rifle, and shoot at Behemoth's "eyes" (sensors). Or maybe the "head" (CPU). The thing is, you need to be able to knock it out with that one shot, making it unconscious. If you fail to do that, you have to reload a that save game and try again, because the Behemoth will kill your shooter (or the whole party) with one retaliation shot.
- Once the Behemoth is knocked out with that single lucky shot, keep shooting at it with your whole party using the most powerful weapons: plasma rifles, pulse rifles, rocket launchers. I usually manage to destroy it just right when it regains consciousness, but before it can retaliate, so you really need to keep hitting it with full force while it is down.
So that includes save scumming, having to get that one critical shot to its eyes perfect.
I guess one could also try to just avoid Behemoths and sneak past them, but at least at one point of the game that doesn't seem to be possible, you have to fight at least one Behemoth.
Note: It appears the Redux mod doesn't only fix some bugs, but also changes some weapons and ammo. For instance, I keep reading in walkthroughs about some enemies having miniguns etc., but I never see those in the game, nor can buy miniguns in stores. Apparently the mod maker didn't like miniguns so he replaced them with other kinds of burst weapons (generic machine guns and such).
That is the thing I dislike in Fallout Tactics (at least the version I am playing), there are many enemies (mainly many robots, but also super mutants with rocket launchers) that you can't really fight head-to-head in an open field, even if you have powerful shooters with the best Advanced Power Armor and the best weapons in the game. They can still kill anyone in your party during one round. Sometimes all it takes is one shot, sometimes two or three shots. And it seems they can e.g. shoot energy weapons accurately from sniper rifle ranges, making it hard to out-snipe them either.
That's not how it was in e.g. Fallout 1-2. In those previous games, once you get the power armors and best weapons, you can hold your own against pretty much anyone in the game, even the super mutants or Enclave soldiers. Just the way I like it.
