idbeholdME: So the prices of these cards are finally going down in my country. There is currently an ASUS ROG STRIX 1080ti on offer for $933 That is ~$150 drop from what it was last week. I have a great inkling to pull the trigger on this one. My goal was to buy for around $900 and this is probably the closest it will get (if we ignore the inferior models).
I would be upgrading from a GTX 780 (so way more than double the performance).
Is there any reason why you wouldn't buy a 1080ti at this time? Anyone would recommend a different 1080ti other than STRIX?
Note:
I know about the RTX 2080 but I'm not impressed. The performance is basically toe to toe while being about $270 more expensive. The 2080ti is out of the question for that exorbitant price ($1600+ where I live) and even though I could afford it, I will not support this corporate greed. The RTX and DLSS are bets on the future and just promises at this point. Even then, Ray tracing will probably not be feasible at decent frames until next gen. The only question that remains is, if DLSS is worth $270 which I have trouble justifying.
Thoughts?
because there are people in this world without food or clean water :\
or better yet, let me break it down this way--
this is no software on the market to take advantage of that hardware outside of pure, brute muscle-power
second, you'll be able to buy the same power a year from now at less than half the cost
