You mean aside from the normal reasons to not buy Nvidia?
Just an update. Installed over the weekend. The GPU is a killer for 2560x1440 @ 165Hz GSync. The smoothness of the picture is on a different level altogether. I am happy to proclaim that 60FPS is officially dead to me. It's been a long time coming. The price was high but you could be waiting for the next best deal forever. I'm glad I finally did it and what comforts me is that now, I will not have to upgrade anything in my PC for many years.

idbeholdME: So the prices of these cards are finally going down in my country. There is currently an ASUS ROG STRIX 1080ti on offer for $933 That is ~$150 drop from what it was last week. I have a great inkling to pull the trigger on this one. My goal was to buy for around $900 and this is probably the closest it will get (if we ignore the inferior models).
I would be upgrading from a GTX 780 (so way more than double the performance).

Is there any reason why you wouldn't buy a 1080ti at this time? Anyone would recommend a different 1080ti other than STRIX?

Note:
I know about the RTX 2080 but I'm not impressed. The performance is basically toe to toe while being about $270 more expensive. The 2080ti is out of the question for that exorbitant price ($1600+ where I live) and even though I could afford it, I will not support this corporate greed. The RTX and DLSS are bets on the future and just promises at this point. Even then, Ray tracing will probably not be feasible at decent frames until next gen. The only question that remains is, if DLSS is worth $270 which I have trouble justifying.

Thoughts?
because there are people in this world without food or clean water :\

or better yet, let me break it down this way--

this is no software on the market to take advantage of that hardware outside of pure, brute muscle-power

second, you'll be able to buy the same power a year from now at less than half the cost

Enjoy! :)

I have a regular 1080 hooked up to a 1080p 60Hz big screen in my living room and I have a feeling it's going to be there for a long, long time, handling anything I care to throw its way.

I mostly play RTS games on the big screen, so 60Hz is fine with me. Even for the odd shooter I will play, I don't mind the 60fps cap in the least. Hell, I remember the days when I was trying to get 25fps in Unreal Tournament (1999) on my low-budget Geforce4 MX 440 :P.

MadalinStroe: Because Black Friday, is pretty close, and you might find a better deal. I bought my rx 580 last year and i have yet to see a better deal until now. And that was during the mining craze.
As someone in the market for a 570/580 can I ask what deal did you get? I currently have a choice of RX580 4gb or RX570 8gb for £180 each. Wondering if it's worth hanging on for a price drop on black friday.

except the 1060s pull just as much weight at a fraction of the cost

the 1060 is the 1080 king

the only reason to step up is to get into the 4K market

I have a 1050Ti on my main gaming rig, which is a laptop, so I'm not the kind of guy who overlooks a good cost-performance ratio. Historically though, the x80 range of Nvidia cards has been more future proof than anything else you can buy from them.

A GTX 680 is on the same level if not still a little better than a 1050Ti, and it was released in 2012!

I got a Sapphire NITRO+ RADEON RX 580, 8GB GDDR5 for 1,399 Lei, which comes to about £260. And by the way, that's exactly how much it costs now. Not sure about the trends in UK, but now in Romania a GTX1060 6GB is cheaper than that. So if I had the opportunity, I would have bought one of those instead.

EDIT: Turns out that the 1060s I saw were incorectly marked as 6GB. They are 3GB actualy. so my trusted 580 is still a great deal.

true but a 1050 Ti don't need no 6 pin mobo power

you can just plug that shit into your Dell prefab and rock out with your cock out,

Not on its own but in a combination with the already mentioned high refresh rate monitors, there certainly is. I'll take 165 Hz over 4K any day.

Doubtful, considering the current NVidia pricing policy. They'll be out of stock before the prices drop that low, considering the flop RTX cards are. People will still buy these cards like crazy. And I've been waiting long enough already with my 5 years old GTX 780 to justify the not so optimal price.

Simply false. See above.

Well, a great deal of things! Indulging in luxury comes up rather low on that list, however.

but hey! you're a grown-ass woman living under an illusion of freedom!

If you want a 1080ti?

Go for it!!!!

Funnel what little power you have upwards to empower those who will exploit you.

At least The Witcher 3 will look AMAZEBALLZ!

I mean *finally*--am I rite?!
