Klumpen0815: I don't comprehend Czech, so I played the English version too and think the dialogues were rather good. I know that most people today don't like to read anymore, but for me it actually was fitting and it's one of the reason why I compared it to Fallout: A lot reading, in addition to the grim setting, depressing athmosphere, harsh characters, etc...
Hey, I don't mind reading. My favorite game is Planescape: Torment which is wordy to say the least.
Huh? the original Mount & Blade is set in a fictional land being fought over by fictional ethnic factions; I've never seen any references to religion, real-world or otherwise. And I haven't played Warband, but as far as I know, it's the same in this respect.
The standalone expansion/spin-off With Fire and Sword and both Warband expansion DLC all take place in historical real-world settings, so maybe religion plays some role there, but I couldn't say.
No-one has mentioned Shin Megami Tensei yet? It's one of the most known known JRPG franchises and religion plays a heavy part in its plots. It even often has Lucifer or God as a boss and you can choose to side with either or be neutral in some of the titles. They've toned down the religious themes in recent titles though to market more for western audiences.

KasperHviid: Perhaps Unrest? Never played it, but it looks more social-realism than most RPG's.
Well said!
I think The First Templar is more of an action game with RPG mechanics than a fully fledged RPG, but it definitely features Christianity.

It was on sale again btw.

Punkoinyc: I haven't played Inquisitor in a while. I remember a lot of church type stuff in it but not many overt references to Christ or the bible. I dunno, I could be remembering wrong, like I said it's been a while.

Anyways, I liked the dark Gothic setting of Inquisitor, but it was a mess and I gave up on it a few hours in. It's a shame that the developers couldn't finish it. It could've been a great Diablo 1 type game but it just never got there. If a decent team got together and made a kickstarter campaign to actually finish developing it I'd back them, but I wouldn't recommend buying it in its current state.
It's just got some bugs, but it's pluses wayyyyy outweigh the minuses, and it is 5000000 times better than Diablo and not really like diablo except for combat (while that is mostly all that diablo is, that is barely what Inquisitor is.) Play on easy, be aware of bugs and make a lot of saves, and you will be pleased, I believe.

I think that we're clearly marked as fanboys now. xD
Growing up with release versions of games like Ultima IX, Gothic 1, Sacred, Vampire: Bloodlines, etc... may have strengthened my tolerance towards bugs...
Regarding the difficulty setting: By now my first playthrough of any game is always on "easy" for a reason.
When devs are creating those difficulty settings without proper feedback by a variety of betatesters, they often don't consider the fact, that they know the code behind this world and how anything is triggered while the actual player does NOT. They're like gods playing in the world they created and saying "well, this is easy".

Bit more of a sim than an RPG, but you can be a Preacher in The Guild/The Guild 2. There are multiple denominations.

Hehehe! It's because it really deserves a lot more love and attention from RPG players!!! It goes right up there, NEAR to Fallout1+2, Arcanum, PS:T, for me. Atmosphere, story, writing, RP choices, variety, it has it all...and then there's blah combat and bugs too *shrug.*

I don't think Inquisitor is anywhere near being in the same league as Planescape: Torment, but you're entitled to your opinion.

Fallout 2 may be the better comparison, since it was actually unfinished and buggy as hell too. I had to abort it due to some mean bugs before the community patches were available over a decade later, they even reintegrated some of the unfinished quests from what I've heard.
I'll never forget, how I drove around the wasteland with many important items in the trunk and when stopping in some desert, most of the car didn't arrive and there was a trunk in the sand while the actual vehicle to transport all the stuff further or at least to some stash in a town was gone - a clean cut off. I wonder where it went. This was one of the most horrible bug experiences in my life and not even Inquisitor did something like this to me.
If a game has a certain fanbase although it's technically subpar, some parts of it must be really awesome.

I really have to play Planescape: Torment again some time. Last time some bugs in the HD mod killed it for me, but those are fixed for ages now.

Hammer of the Gods is a precursor of the HoMM series (also by NWC) where Norse (Viking) mythology from Scandinavia clashes with the Christians from central Europe. It's actually a pretty good game, IMO, though it gets repetitive at times (not many types of units). I can't really understand why it isn't here, when all the HoMM games by NWC are.

I still have my disk version, but I haven't tried to run it for ages. Early SVGA DOS games can be a little tricky to get working. Can't remember if the game supported VESA.
I remember reading about a game set in alternative reality where middle ages never ended to this day (because of some magical event or discovery or something) where you were to play as an inquisitor. It was in the making when I read about it and never heared of it again so it was probably canned.
Unfortunately I don't remember the title (I'm sure it's not Lionheart - the setting is a bit similar but that's not it) - if I'm wrong and it was finished, I'm sure it would fit here. And I would still love to play it :)

Punkoinyc: Most RPGs I've played have fictional polytheistic faiths or a sort of quasi-Christianity like the Chantry in Dragon Age. Are there any good RPG's with real Judaeo Christian religions or Norse gods? I've played some hack n slash games with Thor and Odin like Rune, and there a bunch of strategy games like Stronghold: Crusader that have Christianity and Islam, but I haven't played any RPGs as far as I recall..
There are two RPGs in this list:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_video_games_by_genre#Roleplaying

The Axys Adventures: Truth Seeker
Forgiveness: The Second Chapter

I've never heard about those.

hehe good one, I love doing sermons about how unholy my competitors are

Also like how the game portrays religion as a business.
