In terms of musical instruments, here is a good argument for steering children toward oboe and bassoon (and french horn, which seems to not be popular among school-age children, though it's decently popular among older adults):
* A child, through peer pressue, will likely be steered toward what's popular, which in this case includes the electric guitar.
* By steering a child towars less popular (but still beautiful) instruments, the child can at least give those instruments a chance, and this can balance out the peer pressure toward playing the most popular instrument.

So, in this case, the idea is to balance out peer pressure.

42 1/2 years young. Some of my earliest memories are playing the Atari, it must have been Xmas '78 or '79? Not gonna quit now.

The problem with age? We get to the point where we can afford to indulge in our hobbies... and have less time to do so.

I know this is probably crazytalk, but a Nintendo system sounds like the solution to your problem, one of the last bastions of couch multiplayer.

Which Nintendo are we talking about here?

Technically, any of them since the N64 onward (4 player ports), but the Switch in this specific case, as the joycons attached to the console function as two individual controllers each.

For me it's a different problem. I'm disabled, I lack the energy for work (I work 7 hours a week as a volunteer and that's the limit of my capabilities) but as I get older, I lack the energy for games as well. Money stays fixed at the rate of a disability benefit.

I'll be 40 in about two days :'(

Gamer since i can remember. Indie gamer since the early 00s (mostly because lack of money, and most indie stuff was freeware then). Started developing my own games about 4 years ago, but procrastination won the battle once again...

Anyway, I thought my gaming days were over about 10 years ago until GOG came along. Mainstream PC games are generally awful and not because of Steam in this case.

These days playing mainstream games to escape is more like just being embroiled into the modern world even more - No imagination, no creativiity, no fun at all.

I'm in my mid 40's and i feel young at heart... Old? Sheesh. I'll never quit gaming just like I'll never quit sex. No matter how old I am!
