teceem: I don't like the steering and influencing of children/people in general. Educate and/or inform them and then let them make decisions for themselves!

jeffkiwi: This is true. I don't like control-freak parents. You can force your son/daughter to have a certain hobby and eventually they'll stop that hobby and do something else.
In terms of musical instruments, here is a good argument for steering children toward oboe and bassoon (and french horn, which seems to not be popular among school-age children, though it's decently popular among older adults):
* A child, through peer pressue, will likely be steered toward what's popular, which in this case includes the electric guitar.
* By steering a child towars less popular (but still beautiful) instruments, the child can at least give those instruments a chance, and this can balance out the peer pressure toward playing the most popular instrument.

So, in this case, the idea is to balance out peer pressure.
sometimes its needed to take a break from it and come back, just like anything else u enjoy doing, doesn't matter what age
42 1/2 years young. Some of my earliest memories are playing the Atari, it must have been Xmas '78 or '79? Not gonna quit now.

HereForTheBeer: Part of it, too, is the overwhelming number of games to choose from. Back in the day there'd be a few cool new games at a time at the store each month so you'd pick one and get absorbed in it for a while. By the time you exhausted your fun with that one, the next round of cool stuff would have come out. Now there's so many titles to go for that's it's almost paralyzing. For me, anyway.

DubConqueror: For me it's the same. The number of games I could play is too overwhelming. One positive effect of it though, is it almost stopped me from buying new games. A bit late though, with stopping. Digitally, I have hundreds of games in my backlog. Most of which will never be played as the time spent playing game is dwindling.
The problem with age? We get to the point where we can afford to indulge in our hobbies... and have less time to do so.
I love 8 bit armies but sadly nobody plays the multiplayer. I'd like to play the occasional multiplayer game but it seems that certain games dominate. My friend's son plays a lot of Arma 3, Team Fortress and maybe one other. When I find a game I like it always dies quickly and I'm left with single player, which is nice because I love single player but it does get boring after a while. I refuse to play trendy popular games just to find people to play with. Fortnite? Nah. Screw that.

I know this is probably crazytalk, but a Nintendo system sounds like the solution to your problem, one of the last bastions of couch multiplayer.

I actually have a question (history related) that I would like to ask someone old, but unfortunately you're too young to be able to answer that question
.
"All old people"

"I'm 27 years old"

Which Nintendo are we talking about here?

Technically, any of them since the N64 onward (4 player ports), but the Switch in this specific case, as the joycons attached to the console function as two individual controllers each.

For me it's a different problem. I'm disabled, I lack the energy for work (I work 7 hours a week as a volunteer and that's the limit of my capabilities) but as I get older, I lack the energy for games as well. Money stays fixed at the rate of a disability benefit.
I'll be 40 in about two days :'(
Married and no children excepting myself.
Regards to everyone!

Gamer since i can remember. Indie gamer since the early 00s (mostly because lack of money, and most indie stuff was freeware then). Started developing my own games about 4 years ago, but procrastination won the battle once again...

Good for you.

Anyway, I thought my gaming days were over about 10 years ago until GOG came along. Mainstream PC games are generally awful and not because of Steam in this case.

These days playing mainstream games to escape is more like just being embroiled into the modern world even more - No imagination, no creativiity, no fun at all.
