OldFatGuy: Oohhh... PSU... yeah... I hope so too. I'm thinking it should be enough though... it's 1050. IIRC I used the Newegg PSU calculator and put in two GPU's thinking I was going to go SLI. So even though this is a power hog, I guess it won't use more than two??? Maybe I should go back to Newegg and check the PSU calculator again. lol

ADDED: I just re-did it and with two 1080ti's it came up with 942 Watts. So with 1050 I should be okay with one TitanXp. I hope. lol
Sounds like plenty. I think generally the quality of the PSU is more important than the theoretical Watt performance. I hope it's a reliable brand, because if you're spending so much on PC hardware, the PSU is the last thing you should try to save cash on. Don't want that thing to go kerblooey and ruin your expensive new gear. But as long as you stick to one GPU, and don't try any fancy overclocking, you'll probably be fine.

phaolo: I.. just hope that you won't end up playing only old games and 2d indies with all that expensive hardware..O_o
Hah hah, right, I've been wondering what he's trying to run on that thing. Witcher 3 in 4K comes to mind. And what's that fancy Sci-Fi game called... Star Citizen? Could probably try some VR stuff, too. But I think maybe he just wants to be prepared for future performance hungry games.

OldFatGuy: GODDAMNED MINERS!!!

This is unfuckingbelievably out of control. Prices of the 1080ti's have nearly DOUBLED. No, that's not a typo.

Here's a screen shot of the best deals there are right now... i.e. the "cheap ones" These were in the low 700's not long ago (weeks... not months).

I was looking at one that had an old price, $869.99 but it was shown as Out of Stock. Oh well, I thought, maybe that one will be okay when they get it back. So I clicked on it. When it got to the actual page.... the price wasn't $869.99 any more. IT WAS $1,399.99.

God Damned Miners.

I've got all of my parts except a GPU. And if It's going to be my last rig (it is) there's no sense in going with anything except the 1080ti to future proof it as much as possible (please don't bother posting on here "Wait for the ........." due out in XXXXX months." This is ALWAYS true. ALWAYS. So please don't waste your time)

All I want is a 1080ti. Is there anywhere in this whole world I can buy one for less than $900?

NOTE: For those that might have read my last thread on this subject I had posted a bid on two of them at E-Bay for sort of kind of reasonable prices... still higher than they were but still at least less than $1,000.00. And I was told that on the last couple of days the miners would come in and the price would go up. Yep. Both sold for over $1,300.

God. Damned. Miners.
HEAR HEAR! +1 All I want is a 1070 but I'm not paying the insane price for one. I don't shit money. Damn miners are ruining PC gaming. The only affordable GPUs nowadays are 1050s and 1060s. I guess most miners think they are too weak.

OldFatGuy: No. It's mining.

Qwertyman: Yeah, timing has nothing to do with it. Miners have royally f--ked the video card market for a while now. It sometimes gets a little better during sales, but most of the cards are still way over their MSRP. When I bought a GTX 970 pre-mining days, it was the second best non-Titan video card on the market and it was ~340 USD. Now take a look at the prices on the 1070 and prepare to laugh your a$$ off. Also, check out the prices on the 1060, which is comparable to the 970 I used to have. The 1060 is designed to be a ~$200 budget video card, hence it being comparable to last generations higher end cards (the 900 series).

Although I know the miners didn't do anything with the specific intention of making it more difficult for gamers to build PCs (especially for those with tigher budgets), I wouldn't feel even the slightest bit of sympathy if all of the cryptocurrencies tanked overnight.
My fucking recently purchased 1060, cost me $300, thanks to miners. I say, we gamers should boycott buying GPUs until the prices become reasonable. This will force the stores, NVIDIA and AMD to do something about this bullshit. I'm not upgrading my GPU until I can find a reasonable priced 1070 or 1080. And if I can't find one, I might just become a console gamer in the future because who knows if this BS crypto currency craze will die in the future. There are too many people looking for get rich quick schemes(99% won't work by the way) instead of just hard work.

Themken: Now I am worried about my 500W PSU and my new GPU :-S
And just what is your new GPU?

I have a GTX 1080 and an i7 7700K running on a 450W PSU :). Pascal cards are very power efficient and won't go over board in terms of consumption even in the most demanding of games - that is of course if you don't mess with them.

If they suck too much power on the default fan curve they will overheat and throttle down, so there' s a nice self-limiting loop to it. But to be honest I've never seen mine do that and I've thrown some serious 1080p gaming at it.

There's been an uptick in price, nowhere near double: https://pcpartpicker.com/trends/price/video-card/

oddly enough it seems your 1060s the miners won't touch are actually those that have ticked up most (proportionally).

There was a nice little dive during the boxing day sales. I still hold with the view that miners are not significantly distorting the price.

Let me guess. You are a miner.

EDIT: And 1060s going up the most, only makes me more pissed off because it is fucking over gamers on a budget.

If only. I guess it depends on where you live, but over here 1060s cost about 200 bucks more than they should. The prices of the 1050s mostly seem all right, but of course that doesn't mean much for people who already have a similar GPU ( GTX 960, in my case ).

The problem is, I'm not sure suppliers care if they sell to gamers or crypto-miners, as long as their hardware flies off the shelves.

Is an 1070 even a reasonable upgrade if you already have a 1060? A 1080 or next-gen GPU probably makes more sense. Do you have the 3GB version of the 1060? Consoles are probably not a suitable alternative either for any number of reasons.

And I agree, it's frustrating how all of this seems to be caused primarily by greed and people trying to make easy money. Just like those people who buy up tons of limited collector's editions etc., and then try to resell them for bloated prices. ( I think those Nintendo classic console re-releases were affected by that too. )

In Germany, the prices for PC gaming hardware is already high, I guess due to the fact they are imported from the states so I imagine miners are double fucking German gamers. Yeah, stores don't care if their GPUs are flying off the shelves but NVIDIA cares and they should. This will hurt PC gaming. Console gaming is becoming more attractive with each passing day and that is not good for AMD, NVIDIA etc.

WinterSnowfall: And just what is your new GPU?
It wants 250W when gaming with spikes up to 300W, an AMD 280X, loses to a GTX1050Ti by a smidgen except for the much higher power draw where it shows its age. It was a lot cheaper than a Titan XP or GTX1080Ti. My power meter will go crazy :-(

Ok - Glass half full here. If you do feel that miners are distorting the price (and the prices trend indicates some distortion) then think of it this way - It's a bubble, and they burst. At some point a load of seriously high powered hardware is going to come on the market at really nice prices.

The traders all play their musical chairs with this, whereas you guys just get to reap the "rewards" with no risk.

As I said before - wait for the sales.
