Ryan333: This will require a complete replacement of the CPU, motherboard and memory. And if I’m going to go all-out in those areas, I may as well upgrade the GPU too in order to avoid any bottlenecks. But… alas… the current price of GPUs is absafragginlootly ridiculous
The current GPU prices are indeed absurd, but I wouldn't even buy a new CPU at the moment, due to the Meltdown+Spectre s**t.
Unless they become quite cheap or AMD is really not too much affected..

I would love to be able to upgrade my GPU from a GTX 750 to something that would let me use the Fallout 4 high-res texture pack but with prices where they are right now (especially in Australia) that just isn't going to happen.
Same with upgrading to a higher capacity SSD from my current 250GB SSD (flash chip prices are through the roof right now thanks to everyone buying the iPhone X and Galaxy S8 and all the other overpriced smartphones.

timppu: ...there was some flood in Thailand (Bangkok?) which destroyed some important HDD factories, which caused HDD prices to go up all over the world. I wonder if they have already recovered?
They recovered in two years, so over four years ago, though some shops were tardy with lowering their prices enjoying the better margins for a while.

timppu: Many have already mentioned how RAM prices have gone up, is this only due to increased demand also in phones and tablets, or something else?
The move to newer memory dice means big and costly refitting of old factories and all mobile devices totally demand the latest in memory for smaller weight, less power, less heat, less space/GB but also DDR4 needs pretty new memory or it cannot meat the specifications.

Ryan333: NVIDIA and AMD better figure out a way to segregate their GPU lines into “gamer” and “processor” models, or else they're going to bottleneck the entire enthusiast PC market.
They do have "processor" (or rather GPGPU - general purpose GPU) models without a display output. Trouble is, they are targeted at enterprise and as such cost a fuckload. Cryptomining isn't a stable enough market that they will bother with specialised products yet (though AMD apparently have specialised drivers for their consumer products).

Nvidia Tesla, AMD FirePro, and AMD Radeon Instinct.

Well, at least you didn't invest your life savings into this speculative bubble.

IF Bitcoin do not crash, its value will keep higher and higher.

The problem is, nobody know for sure that Bitcoin is not another economic bubble.
The only place I've found reasonable prices is at Nvidia's own site.... and that means you aren't getting some of the "extra" stuff that resellers add. Of course some of that is crap.... but some is nice and can actually impact performance and ease of use.

But........ ALL of the 1000's series are Out of Stock. 1050, 1060, 1070, 1070ti, 1080, and 1080ti.

And the places where there are 1080ti's available..... well over 1,200 usually. (See screenshots above).

So the TitanXp at $1,138.00 is actually cheaper than a 1080ti.... right now. (And strangely enough... the Star Wars Collector's edition TitanXp's are cheaper than the Standard TitanXp ($1,138.00 versus $1,200.00).

So, as I said above, right now anyway, getting the TitanXp is actually the less insane choice. I shot the moon and got two to run in SLI. LOL One of the Jedi Order and one of the Gallactic Empire collector's edition, along with the High Bandwidth SLI bridge. They arrived today.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/10series/geforce-store/

ADDED: And now I notice that the TitanXp's are now Out Of Stock.

The other interesting thing about all of this is that right now it is most likely CHEAPER to buy pre-built, especially if you were wanting 1080ti's. The pre-built's aren't showing price spikes (yet anyway) but I'm thinking at some point when 1080ti prices are actually over--- and they're close now--- a pre-built with a 1080ti (or two) the miners will just buy them, take out the 1080ti's, and sell the PC on E-Bay with on board graphics and the ability to add your own graphics card(s) later. But right now it is almost at the point where an entire system, pre-built, with 1080ti's costs the same as the cards themselves. (I've seen a couple of builds less than $1,500.00 and I've seen some 1080ti's over $1,500.00)

Yeah, I actually noticed that too... we'll get to a whole new level of ridiculous if miners start doing that as well. Don't give them any ideas!

The 1080tis may not be in any immediate danger since the rigs were originally extra expensive due to the other high-end parts, but I've seen fair/unaltered priced rigs with 1060 and 1070 in them all ripe for the pillaging :|.

A strange situation where buying a system off the shelf can be better value than building yourself. They too often come with weak PSUs and slow RAM though.

Yes, that and often storage (amounts usually so they can advertise an SSD but it's only 250Gb or less even) are where they "cut the costs" and then advertise the CPU and GPU.

In other words you'll see "Extreme Gaming Computer... i7-8700k, GEForce 1080ti, SSD, 1TB HDD, Only $1,599.99. And then you look at the actual equipment and the SSD is only 128Gb, the memory is 1600Mhz, and the PSU is one you wouldn't trust with your electric razor. lol

Hmmm, well I spoke too late about the pre-builts it looks like. Funny, I had just checked prices there a few weeks ago (I know it was 2018 so no more than 3 weeks ago) but when I just looked to see if I could find anything close to the made up example I did above.... oh boy have they gone up too. At least at Amazon (where I usually look first). Anything with a 1080ti in it is now at least almost $2,500 and I know I remember seeing one before in the $1,500 range (maybe 1,599 I dunno memory sucks lol). It looks to me too, again going by a flaky memory, that systems with just 1080's in them have gone up as well.

Shouldn't be surprised. If I had thought of it, you knew there were miners that had thought of it. It appears to me as though they've driven up prices of pre-builts too now.

God Damned Miners.
