I had a break some time last year and it lasted for about 6 months. Reason being, I bought a PS4 PRO because Horizon Zero Dawn was screaming at me... I'd never been so tormented about a game, even The Witcher 3 from a series with established love. Needless to say, I was in love and I began digging up more games, especially Japanese exclusives that were right up my alley.

During that time I only touched the PC for my Uni stuff and every day necessities.

I'd returned a short time ago in late February to discover some much desired indies here. I put the PRO away because I missed my 60fps blah blah. I found myself back in the old routine of filling my desktop with game icons, doing little with them, and spending more time on YouTube trying to find a new video that wasn't there. Toxicity from comments on YouTube and to some extent GOG among others had found a way into my veins and once again I fell into bitterness.

I see God of War on the horizon, along with Yakuza 6, Detroit: Become Human... and the I realise the other games I grabbed the PS4 for in the first place. So, once again I've unboxed that sweetheart just a few hours ago, with the realisation that I don't need my PC for games any longer. That time away, followed by a brief revisit, has shown me that despite the obvious technological superiority and flexibility the PC has - it doesn't appeal to me anymore. The amount of time I spent on gaming on the PS4 during that 6 months was without a doubt 100-fold over the last 2-3 years prior on the PC. I spent more time on forums with the PC than I did the games bought from here, and most of the time I felt compelled to find argument, and overall disagreement. I didn't touch forums once during that 6 months; I simply started up games and enjoyed them for the longest time I have in recent memory.

Sorry if that's a mess, and sorry if you felt like reading this was a waste of time. Sorry to the people I've pissed off... I don't know what else to say but sorry. I feel like I was at a good point once upon a time, but something changed and a downward spiral was my only path. I'm afraid I won't be seeing to any comments, as once I post this message I'm gone.

All the best to everyone, especially those who have been friendly to me.
Michael.
I haven't followed your previous posts, but it sounds like you are burned out
on the internet.
My suggestion, go outside.
Go camping, go fishing.
Leave you're electronics at home.

But I guess you'll never read anyone's reply...sad

So long console peasant. Have a good one! :)
Begone, console wretch, from these hallowed halls of true gaming!
Can't you just play the PC games and ignore youtube and the forums?
A man must do what a man must do. Good that you have found your place in the world and what you really want to do in your life (PS4 games).
Some game types work well on consoles and if those are your kind of games, why not. Live and let live, I say.
He will be back.

Sounds like you're conflating two different issues - 1. A preference for Japanese console-exclusive games and 2. Conflating forum argument addictions only with PC gaming. There's nothing wrong with the former as personal taste drives everyone's gaming choices. For the latter, being upset at toxic Youtube comments / constant arguing in gaming forums isn't a PC-exclusive problem. It's not like people are incapable of posting stupid sh*t / reading same forums on their mobile phones / tablets. Likewise, there's a very good reason why multi-player gamers still hit the mute button on console platforms as they do with same title on PC's. Trolls, "squeakers", etc, aren't limited to one platform.

The "I'm spending more time arguing over games than playing them" problem is all down to self-discipline. Simply saying "just for today the web browser / mobile phone will remain closed and I'll focus only on playing x game" solves that. Then it's just a case of normalizing that into becoming a "positive habit" by repeating each day for 2-3 weeks, after which the "need" to engage in constant squabbling / forum addictions just falls away naturally. Not just for gaming forums either, but pretty much digital addictions to anything (political forums and social media being the worst "I felt compelled to argue..." amongst the general population).

I also first wondered what do these "forum problems" have to do with PC gaming, but I concluded maybe his problem was that since you are on a PC (when you intend to play some PC games), you easily launch some web browser instead and start surfing the net, instead of gaming. That happens to me too, e.g. I should be playing Deus Ex now instead of writing this, I guess.

I don't know about PS4's internet capabilities (I presume that at least the lack of a keyboard makes it more cumbersome) but I guess the "benefit" of a PS4 is that when you start it up, you can do very little besides just starting to play a game.

But then as said, if his preference is Japanese console-exclusives mainly, then it doesn't maybe make much sense to even try to be a PC gamer. I'm the other way around, I feel much more at home with PC games than most console games. I guess it depends what you are used to.

this, so many people are caught up with social media now, not sure if it makes them the happier for it

for my part I see the basic mechanics of PC spelling doom for my aging bones, its pretty uncomfortable to game for long times, keyboard mouse and the ergonomic mess of chair and monitor. it will be the reason i stop, but I just cant get into consoles for the life of me

With regards to the k+m and chair monitor, get yourself a sit stand desk. I got one nearly 2 years ago and it's fantastic. As a long time gamer and use computers at work, I was getting rsi in both wrists (which did help with the snes hands to be honest), and really bad back. Since getting the new desk the back is much better and the rsi has gone down. I stand all the time gaming nowmeans I am moving about and the body doesn't get stuck in one position. I have a sit stand desk at work also, and split between sitting and standing as it can tire your legs and give you sore feet so don't overdo it.
I can dig out the name of the desk I got, really solid build, crank handle move up and down. And was only something like £150.

So basically gaming on the PC is a problem for you because the PC offers too many distractions from gaming.

Well, ever since a PS4 slim / Horizon Zero Dawn bundle magically appeared under my arm at the electronics store cashier, I've been pondering whether to go back to console-mostly.

I won't.

The releases that I'd love to play on console are few and far between. Even series that I loved in the nineties and early 2000s have gone to utter shit, Final Fantasy first and foremost. I'm still a mouse guy and aiming with this bar of soap the console manufacturers call a "stick" is still an absurd pain in the ass for me even after 112 hours and a Platinum Horizon Zero Dawn trophy. Even many jump'n'runs work better with keyboard and mouse when aiming is part of the equation. I can not imagine playing a Mass Effect part on console. And my favorite genre, the point and click adventure game, works way better on the PC for obvious reasons, i.e. the pointing and the clicking.

Good luck and let's see how you fare. Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy are insanely good, give 'em a try. Depending on your preferences, we may or may not see you back here.
