sanscript: A bit late but I'll try anyway.
A18: As DadJoke Bond wrote, it's actually scary. UK have for many years now shown a complete tendency towards fascism and the road to to thought policing is relatively near... "encouraging terrorism" is such a loose term.
Everything from opinions, humour, and art is subject for overzealous control, not to mention (think it was from ArsTecnica or something), UK has one the largest state surveillance system in the world (perhaps only surpassed by China?)
The need to protect oneself seem to backfire into just more control and policing every minute thing... As far as I know he didn't even get a warning and now he's life is essentially ruined because of his jail time. Well, his list of options gets rather small when he gets out.
I wonder how many years away we are from a full conflict again, not unlike the 1789 where normal people were simply fed up with status quo.
Perhaps he should hear/fell some sort of public "reprimand" ala being locked out of social media, or some sort of state service where you work off your sentence and not putting it on the record, but jail?

GameRager: Also falster: I hope the low ratings others gave you didn't scare you away....they do that to anyone who posts nicely in my threads. Pay it no mind, and I hope you return to post again with insight and replies to the things I bring up. :)
sanscript: For some reason (I think why) I was targeted for the first time just a few hours after my thoughts on A17... My inner vioce told me that I should be prepared for that, but the thing I don't understand is that it varies very highly who/what get low rated... like a tug-war :)
1. This is all good points, and yeah the dude should've gotten a reprimand first...but UK's gotta make a point and an example, sadly.
Some bloke who didn't want to be on the new face scanners that they were trialing in the UK covered his face as he walked by them and the cops pulled him over......when he told the to "F Off" they gave him a 90 euro fine(or 90 pounds, i forget which) for his trouble. :\ 2. True, but it seems anyone who adds actual discussion to these threads gets downrated like a virtual warning: "Don't you dare associate with that GR chap".....etc. It's like they can't stand people actually liking what I post or wanting to post back more than silly pictures and joke replies.
Oh well, pay it no mind and thanks for adding to the discussion. :) sanscript: A18: As DadJoke Bond wrote, it's actually scary. morolf: imo it's the opposite of fascism (which was an extreme form of nationalism)...more like immigration and increased ethnic and religious diversity have led to severe tensions in Britain. Those in power are clearly afraid that the situation might spiral out of control, if one doesn't keep a tight lid on things, so there's this increasing authoritarianism.
Same in much of western Europe.
That being said, the guy who posted that pic about prince Harry is a scumbag, and while his punishment was excessive imo, he did deserve some punishment. Threatening murder is not ok.
The situation is spiralin out of control already by them allowing anyone and everyone in without much checking and allowing them to get away with a ton of stuff without jail/etc for fear of offending them or others. They should just say something like "No offense intended, but we have to enforce these laws on our books across the board irregardless of a person's nationality/religion/race/etc...nothing personal intended....etc" and police people as they should be doing.
Also yeah he should be punished but as I said not to such an extent...on that we agree.
