immi101: i'd vote for moving all non-gaming related threads to a seperate off-topic forum. Especially all those endless threads (what are you reading/listing, Forum Mafia, Count in pictures...)
Due to their nature they always occupy a large part of the first few pages and other stuff gets pushed back far too quickly if you don't visit that often
Separating the General Discussion into to many sub-forums would not be good, you can see the result in the empty game-specific forums. The "political" threads are an exception, because they literally posion the community, and should be kept away from general population.
Breja: and using the forum needs to be locked behind a paygate
immi101: uh, pls don't. That would remove the ability for newcomers to inquire about a game before buying. This is still foremost a store ;)
They can still read the reviews, they have the whole of the internet to google for info about the game. And I don't see many people who bought nothing at all making such inquires here anyway. I really don't see another effective way of dealing with alts and scammers. I'm not happy to recommend that step, but I just don't see good alternatives.
Oh, and finally- a very basic level of moderation. I get that we enjoy our total freedom here a lot, but when some users start talking about sending people to gas chambers, I think a line should be drawn.
Yeah, getting called a cockroach of a faggot is really a great reason to hang around :P
