I'm not sure how much this will help you but I figured out that you can Show Package Content of the Boxer Gamebox States. You might be able to find what you are looking for there.
The first Eye of the Beholder game does not feature multiple save slots, no. The second game and onward does, however.

Yes, that's clear to me since 1993. But, I remember some .sav file(s) to copy anywhere else to, having a safe file to recover if in need. Cannot find them out now within the game package.
Thanks

Cannot find the usual .sav file (or whatever I remeber from older versions). D'you know the correct path to find it out? Thanks

Penultimate question.

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood what you were looking for.

On my installation via GoG Galaxy there's a .sav file in the "GoG Galaxy Client/Games/Eye of the Beholder" directory. It's labeled EOBDATA.SAV. It wasn't there until I actually saved the game once, though.

Then, I tried to copy (in Mac) EOBDATA.SAV from Eob1 to Eob2 directory but it shows me four unknown character never seen, never been played before. WHT?
Thanks

My guess would be that somehow you got the wrong file and are looking at the quickstart party.

Finally found how. The EOBDATA.SAV whose works is in another directory in Mac OS.
Hi Caradryan,

seemingly I have run into the same problem and cannot transfer my EOB1 party to EOB2 on Mac.
Could you specify in which directory you found the savegame file?

I've tried to use an old savegame file from the time when I still played on a Windows system back in 2007 and it works. But the one from my most recent playthrough only features level 3 characters I have never created. Looks like a custom file to me (characters' names: Allabar, Ariel, Valanau, Tenmiyana). This file is located here:

/Applications/Eye of the Beholder I.app/Contents/Resources/game/Eye of the Beholder.app/Contents/Resources/Eye of the Beholder.boxer/C.harddisk/save/eobdata.sav

Does anybody have an idea about how to tackle this problem?

Wrong folder. You need the one under $HOME/Library:
Q: Where can I find my Boxer (DOS) game's save files? To access your saved games, go to Applications -> Terminal
In Terminal, paste, or type in, the following line and press Enter (Return):
open ~/"Library/Application Support/Boxer/Gamebox States"
Find your game's folder. The package containing your save files is located inside.

Hi Gydion, seems like you know your stuff...I'm having the same problem locating the GOOD save file on my Mac...I bought the Mac version of the 3 games and am finishing the 1st...I tried to import the party from EOB to EOB 2 but same stuff happens...4 unknown fuckers appear instead of my party...
could you explain the path i have to go trhu to find that folder with my party inside?
I'd be grateful!

UPDATE: I found it! :) It was in LIBRARY (hidden folder) application support - boxer

I made multiple copies of my game by copying the .SAV and .TMP files in the "..\Eye of the Beholder\cloud_saves\" folder into a "\backup\" folder I created there. Then I added a .0100, .0101, .0200, etc (level and number) extension to each file. If I need to reload, I remove the extension and copied them to the "..\Eye of the Beholder\cloud_saves\" folder. -jim-
