ASUS N53S laptop with a GeForce GT 540M graphics card (exactly one year old). Video drivers updated and patch applied but I still get the 'FezGame has stopped working' error. Seems to me, something is still amiss.

Have you updated your video card drivers from Nvidia itself or from your manufacturer? Because I looked up a couple variations of that model of laptop ( http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=N53SM&p=3&s=271 and http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=N53SV&p=3&s=271 ) and they show some drivers from either 2011 or mid-2012.

I am not sure if this will help but you could try updating your video card drivers from Nvidia directly, if possible and if you haven't already :D.

You need to supply more info than that. Look in the Event Viewer Windows logs under Application. There should be an entry there regarding fez.exe - post the log entry here if you want more help.

I must say:

Doesn't seem all that useful.
I am having the same issue with my Aspire 7750g-6854
with the AMD radeon hd 6650 graphics card.
All drivers are up to date and after the FEZ 1.02 patch

It will not get past the launch screen without telling me there is an error and shutting down.

Hi there!

I thought I was the only one experiencing this, since I didn't find others outside this topic. May be related to laptops, really.

I'm not versed in computer language, so sorry if I don't provide enough information. This is all I could get from the message when the game crashes at launch (it doesn't even start, stops at the loading screen):

Loading, please wait v 1.03

It's just a hunch, but did you set any parameters in the driver control panel to anything but "Application-defined"? glDepthRange is a pretty simple function that is hard to confuse... so it seems more likely that the error is on the driver-side of things than in the application.

So, what else could make it fail? Assuming it isn't a driver bug, really only a NaN value as input or something trying to interfere with the drawing, for example something that tries to capture the desktop... LogMeIn, TightVNC and so on. Try to disable them. Adapter-type drivers like 3D-display drivers or anything that has the word "optimizer" in it might do that as well.

A NaN value could occur if the resolution is very strange... do you have multiple desktops? Try to disable the second one. Maybe you could try a different in-game resolution: Go to %APPDATA%\Fez and open Settings with a text editor. Try to use different values for width and height.

EDIT:
You may also want to set useCurrentMode to true, though in my case that caused other issues.

My drivers are up-to-date, and I did get them directly from NVidia. It just seems odd that I can get every other game to at least work on this computer, but Fez...no. The information from the Event Viewer log is below:

SOLUTION: I managed to solve my problem. I opened the NVidia control panel and under 'Manage 3D settings' I changed my preferred graphics processor from 'auto-select' to 'High-performance NVIDIA processor'. As it turns out, the program was using the integrated graphics (which I assume is part of the motherboard). Now it loads just fine. Maybe this will help some of the others who are having this problem.

You know...Your Notebook has 2 GPUs. One is the Intel HD Chip and one is your Nvidia GT 540M.
The Problem is now that your Notebook mostly wants to try to run Fez with the Intel GPU.
There are 3 ways(prolly more) you can now disable the Intel GPU, or just tell Fez to only use the Nvidia GPU.

1.) If you are Tech-savvy you can Enter your Notebooks Bios and find the NVIDIA Optimus Setting. This is either ON or OFF
Switch this setting and only the NVIDIA GPU will be used at all times - If you use your Notebook stationary(and without battery in this case) you can leave it at that. If you travel around i would try the other options because the NVIDIA gpu needs more power and thus drains the battery more quickly.

NOTE: If you are using an external monitor(with HDMI) it might be that you only see a picture when windows is started. This is normal.

2.) Open the NVIDIA Control Panel and click on Manage 3d Settings. In the Global Settings Tab you can select which GPU you want to use at all times or specify that setting to a certain program using the "program settings" Tab.

3.) There is also an "OptimusFix.exe" and Renaud posted a link to that here:
https://getsatisfaction.com/polytron

But i couldn't find that post anymore :/ And i also did not Test that. Don't just download this exe file somewhere, or if you do scan it with an up to date Antivirus Software.

The above is true for all Notebooks with Nvidia Optimus. Same goes for AMD switchable Graphics. Just deactivate that Intel GPU...i hope Intel will get some decent GPUs in the future...i don't know what happened to the Hardware Raytracer and Daniel Pohl...haven't heard much of this lately :/

Got sidetracked there...sorry.
In any Case the BIOS and the Drivers should be up to date. This is especially true for Optimus to work correctly...it is a mess. The first Notebooks with that feature (hello HP and Dell ;b) were really CRUEL...getting that to work was a pain in the arse.

Anyhow... Good Luck to you Sir!

Edit: Sorry i did not read that you found that out already....and i also did not see, that the OptimusFix.exe is already in the Fez Folder...

There should be an icon down in the lower right corner of your desktop. It's the Nvidia symbol (kind of looks like a green eye).
