I bought Far Cry 2, and every time I tried to download it it failed. I then tried to download GOG down loader, and that kept failing. Could someone please help me!

Sounds like a connection problem. You may need to reset your modem and reboot your computer.

If that doesn't work, try flushing your browser's cache and make sure you chose the download directory you want (don't use the default). If that doesn't work, try downloading with another browser.

Thank you. It worked, but it keeps telling me to specify the location of part 2. It won't let me pick a location. What do I do?

It needs to be in the same directory as the other files and with the correct filename, not helpfully renamed (1) or the like. Directory listing or screenshot of said directory may help.
To install the game, make sure you downloaded these files into the same directory:

setup_far_cry2_2.0.0.8.exe
setup_far_cry2_2.0.0.8-1.bin
setup_far_cry2_2.0.0.8-2.bin

For example, I would save the installation files for Far Cry 2 into a directory like this:
D:\GOG-installers\FarCry2\

That's an example. If you only have one hard drive, it will need to be a directory on your C: drive. You'll need to make a new directory and save the files in it. You can name the directory whatever you want.

Then go to that directory and run setup_far_cry2_2.0.0.8.exe

Then you will be able to install the game and play it.

If you need more help, please let me know what Operating System you're using (Windows XP, Windows 7, or something else).

By the way thank you for all your help, but how do I make a directory? I have Windows Vista.

Here are a couple videos showing how to do it.

1. a very simple way to do it.
https://youtu.be/ITyDTuK285o

2. Here's a video showing you how to make a new directory using Windows Explorer (again, also called "My Computer"). It also shows some other functions you can do using "My Computer"

https://youtu.be/ueoOvrGC3rg

("My Computer", also called Windows Explorer is a file manager that comes with Windows. There's an icon on your computer desktop that looks like a small computer and has the label "My Computer". Think of it like a virtual filing cabinet. Each drive on your computer is like a drawer in the filing cabinet. Each folder on your computer is like a folder in your filing cabinet. )

Didn't work. Won't let me put it in a folder.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Won't let me put it in a folder".

I think what you mean is that when you try to download something, your browser won't let you chose where to download it.

To do that, you need to change a setting in your browser.

Here's a guide that will show you how to chose where to download files.

http://www.wikihow.com/Choose-Where-a-Download-is-Saved

The three main browsers are in order
Internet Explorer
Firefox
Chrome

Scroll down until you find the browser you're using and follow the guide.

Newer versions of Firefox are more similar to Chrome now and may not follow the guide exactly.

SaviorTman: Didn't work.
You'll need to be far more specific than "Didn't work".

Which browser are you using? Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome? Do you know which version?

Try going back and following the guides I posted links to. All the information you need is there.

Does your computer meet Far Cry 2's minimum specifications? Are you able to play any other games on your computer?

Minimum system requirements - Windows: Supported OS: Windows® XP / Vista® / Windows® 7 Processor: Dual-core processor 2.6 GHz Intel® Pentium® D or AMD Athlon™ 64 3500+ RAM: 1 GB Windows XP / 2 GB Windows Vista Video Card: 256 MB DirectX® 10.0–compliant video card or DirectX 9.0–compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher Sound Card: DirectX 9.0 or 10.0–compliant sound card (5.1 sound card recommended) Hard Drive Space: 12 GB

When I make a new directory and try to download it there it won't let me. I also can't put D:\GOG-installers\FarCry2\ as the name of the folder because it won't allow :, and \ to be part of the name. I can screenshot what it says in the text that pops up to show you want I mean.

Go ahead and take a screenshot. Also, tell me which browser you're using.

D:\GOG-installers\FarCry2\ was just an example of drive/folder/folder.
D: is an example of the hard drive designation (You probably only have one hard drive and it's the C drive). GOG-installers is a folder you can make on that hard drive.
FarCry2 is a folder you can make inside the GOG-installers directory (directory and folder mean the same thing).

Folders in folders makes it easier to organize stuff.

Make sense? Symbols like :, \, etc aren't part of the name. They're just designating the separation of drive and folder. Some operating systems use / instead of \.

You wouldn't enter D:\GOG-installers\FarCry2\ when trying to download. That was just an example showing a drive, a folder on the drive, and a folder in that folder.

When you try to save a file, a window pops up. That's the save dialogue window. You can click a tiny little arrow up by the location bar. Then a list will appear of your hard drives and will also probably show your Documents folder too. Then, you can select which hard drive to use (pick the C: drive). You may need to scroll up or down. In the main part of the save dialogue there will be a list of the folders and files in the drive or directory you selected. There will also be little buttons at the top of the window that let you do things like go back a directory, up a directory, change from icon to list view, create a new folder, and more. You can also perform most of those functions by right clicking on a blank space in the window. When you right click, a menu appears and shows all the options.

If you're unsure about anything, hover your mouse over a button and a little hint should pop up. Try practicing downloading and saving files to new directories. Go to the main Google page (or any page with an image) and download the Google logo (right click on image, left click on download image - or maybe it's Save Image or something similar). That should give you some practice until it makes sense to you.

Sorry I haven't been responding. I tried what you told me, and it didn't work. I use google chrome.

SaviorTman: Sorry I haven't been responding. I tried what you told me, and it didn't work. I use google chrome.
Step 1
Click the settings button in Chrome. It's in the upper right of the Chrome Browser. It looks like three lines.

Step 2
Click on Settings

Step 3
Scroll down and click on "Show advanced settings..."

Step 4
Scroll down to section: "Downloads"

Step 5
Click box next to text that says "Ask where to save each file before downloading". It will now have a checkmark.

Step 6
Close the Settings tab.

Step 7
Go to your GOG account Library

Step 8
Find Far Cry 2 and click on it.

Step 9
Find text that says:
Windows installer, English (part 1 of 3) 1 MB 2.0.0
Windows installer, English (part 2 of 3) 1.5 GB 2.0.0
Windows installer, English (part 3 of 3) 840 MB 2.0.0

Each line is a link to download part of the installer. Part 1 is the installer program. Part 2 and Part 3 have all the files for the game inside. bin files are like boxes.

Step 10
Click on the first line that says:
Windows installer, English (part 1 of 3) 1 MB 2.0.0

Step 11
Now you can select the directory you want to save the installer in. Find the directory you want to use and click the "Save button".

Step 12
Click on the second download link:
Windows installer, English (part 2 of 3) 1.5 GB 2.0.0
save it to the same directory.

Step 13
Click on the third download link:
Windows installer, English (part 3 of 3) 840 MB 2.0.0
and save it to the same directory.

Step 14
The Far Cry 2 installer files are now saved on your computer. Now, open up your "My Computer" and find the directory where you saved the files.

Step 15
To install the game, click on the file: setup_far_cry2_2.0.0.8.exe

--- You probably can't see the exe text. Each file has an extension. Most are three letters with a period before. They tell you what kind of file they are (examples are: .exe - which are programs, .jpg - which are pictures, etc)

If you want to see file extensions, watch this video that will show you how to make "My Computer" show them for all files:

There you go. I've explained everything as completely and thoroughly as possible. If you still have trouble, you're going to need to take a class that teaches basic computer skills.
