Sorry to drag this up as I know it has featured in many threads, but as none of them are terribly recent and seem somewhat contradictory, I'd like to clarify the following:

I recently bought and installed Fallout 1 via Galaxy, and under 'other executables' I see that I can launch Fallout Classic. However, when reading up on the game before buying I learned that 'Classic' is the Interplay version, that these versions were removed from GOG a few years ago, and that while they were still accessible for those that already had them in their library, the versions now on sale were the Bethesda versions (though those who bought the Interplay versions had gotten the Bethesda versions too).

Grateful if someone who's up to speed with the current status could clarify:

(1) Is the 'Classic' version I can access through Galaxy the Interplay version? If not, what is it?

(2) With regard to both the 'Classic' version and the (for want of a better word) 'normal' version, are either/both the so-called 'censored' version?

(3) If censored, has anyone got current advice on the best way to patch them to get the uncensored/'original' version?

Many thanks in advance - my brain is turned inside-out by now with all the changes these games seem to have gone through on GOG!

Too my knowledge the only difference between the Interplay and Bethesda versions are the extras.
The Interplay version has several extras, the Bethesda version only has the manual.
I have the Interplay versions, but never gotten the Bethesda versions in my library.
I can't imagine the games are different, unless Bethesda added a loading screen with their company name.
It's been a while, but IIRC the 1st Fallout is censored. It's the UK version IIRC. To uncensor it, you'll need the children's patch. That was already the case in the Interplay version.
No idea what's in Galaxy.
Interplay version is also available for Mac. Bethesda version is Windows-only.

Thanks HertogJan, but what I'm actually trying to clarify is whether the versions currently for sale on GOG still include the Interplay versions - older forum threads seem to imply that these versions were removed entirely in favour of Bethesda-only copies, but the copies I downloaded yesterday still have the option to launch a 'Classic' version, so it looks like Interplay versions are still accessible?

Good to know that the games are unlikely to be substantially different in any case, and thanks for clarifying that the Interplay version of Fallout 1 was censored - I'll hunt down the patch!

No, they don't. That "Classic" option means starting the game without any game-enhacing modifications, like High Resolution Patch, that is included by default. Those names look the same, but mean two different things.
