SummersetBanjo: So given that Bethesda has re-released fallout 1 what mods are needed/still compatible with the new version?
More than likely most of them; the changes to their version is the mods made from the fan-community as far as I know, and they're either widely accepted and scripted for, or are superficial enough the mods will just override them without game breaking.

Or at least for the big mods (Killaps stuff like RP, Fixt, Megamod)
14 year old obscure ones, not-so-much.

scratchm: I modded my Gog Galaxy install of Fallout 1 with Fallout Fixt and it still launches no problems.

Is your Gog Galaxy library installed under C:\Program Files? You could be running into a problem with user account control (UAC); I hear it doesn't like it when installed games get modded, but it only pays attention to certain directories. My library is on another disk and folder entirely so that may be why mine works and yours doesn't.

CthuluIsSpy: How did you get galaxy to run fixt?
When I install fixt, it creates a new folder in the fallout directory, with its own exe.
You need to install outside of Program Files if it's a mod that swaps out the Executable, just download an installer and install to something like C:\Games\Fallout, and then patch that. Then mod it, and create a shortcut.

Mods that don't use a different binary (.exe) should work fine through GoG.

I'm having problems with Fallout Fixt and the new "classic" version of Fallout.

I also had this with FO2 and the unofficial patch, however I tried again and this time I didn't let the UP install it's High-Res patch. It works perfectly fine.

I suspect the same with Fixt, however there's no option to install it without HR.
Is the High Resolution Patch even needed anymore? I'm seeing an option to enable a High Resolution Patch in Galaxy's configuration menu for FO1 and FO2.

I'm not sure (I'm new to the serie, despite having it on my shelve since a lot of time now :P) but I think the "Fallout classic" installers have been updated to be the same than the "re-release" installers. And so, they now include the High Resolution patch (and all other things Bethesda may have added). Look at this thread, may be it'll help you.

One little question : for a first playthrough of the Fallout 1, is the "TeamX NPC Mod" needed ? I want to play it the most vanilla as possible (I only installed "TeamX Patch 1.2.1" and "TeamX Patch 1.3.5" to fix bugs and missing childrens).

Hey guys

I'm playing through Fallout with fixt installed and everything is dandy until I get the .223 pistol and they replaced the sound effect for firing it with some other not nearly as loud and BOOM-y sound effect. I've tried googling where to find a replacement and where to put it but I can't find one.

I've even installed fallout without the fix on a different computer to just copy the entire Fallout\data\sound\fx folder to the one where I'm playing but that folder doesn't even seem to exist for some reason. Any advice on how to fix this, while keeping the mod and my save files and all of that jazz?

Thanks

Edit: Never mind, I solved it by unpacking the MASTER.DAT file from a fresh installation and taking the sound file from there.

Okay, can someone clear this up for me..

I bought these games years ago, my first GOG.com purchase waaay back in the site's infancy. Back then, there were no mods pre-included with the installation so when I finally decided to replay the old Fallout games, I did what I did back then: I installed the game, and then went down the list like was on page 1.

This was, of course, before I discovered that the High Resolution Patch installer was already there. That's when I started to wonder if I was actually screwing up the game instead of following the correct procedures. So basically, what I'm asking is this:

Are the steps on the first page still what is recommended or are they all pre-installed from the get-go. I do not use GOG Galaxy (nor am I likely to) so any advice related to that is neither helpful nor necessary - though the help is still appreciated.

Same thing applies to the sequel. I discovered a readme for sfall but that doesn't tell me if all that stuff has been take care of during the actual installation or if I should still go through the motions like I did years ago.
I'd still like to know the answer, since it'll likely impact Fallout 2, as well. However, I did install Fallout Fixt on a clean install of the game and have not run into any incidents - great mod/patch, very customizable - so I'm going to hazard the assumption that either the stuff in the folder isn't actually pre-installed or that Fixt simply ignored it.

Well at the very least I'm pretty sure that installing something like Fixt over the top of Fallout should be fine whether or not Fixt is already installed - Fixt should (in theory) simply overwrite any older versions. The same should be true of similar mods (again in theory).

I think most of the mods have been included in Fallout Fixit. Check out NMA page http://www.nma-fallout.com/showthread.php?194562-Fallout-1-megamod-Fallout-FIXT-alpha-6-5-Dec-26-2013. Here is an excerpt.

"These are all included with my mod; do NOT download or install them:"

FULLY INTEGRATED PATCHES:
- Official Interplay patches (1.1, 1.2)
- TeamX patches (1.2, 1.21, 1.3.5)
- No Children Fix
- Cathedral Crash Fix (and other fixes by Sduibek for the Cathedral, Military Base and The Glow crashes)
- Nimrod's Dialog Fixes
- FreeSpace variable is set to 0 by default, so you won't have to worry about that crash either.

FULLY INTEGRATED MODS:
- Fallout 1 Restoration Mod, version 1.0b1 [Created by Wasteland Ghost. Portions by Mynah, hamster, Wasteland Hellbringer.]
--- Invasions are now entirely optional (including Necropolis), and invasion dates can be customized, anywhere from instant to 4x their default values.
--- Deathclaw status is no longer linked, i.e. killing it on the world map or in the cave does not prevent it from appearing at the other.
- Extended Flamer Attack Mod [Created by .Pixote.]
- Endgame Mod [Created by Corpse]
- TeamX NPCs 3.5
- Sfall ddraw 1.19 (Timeslip & sfall team, + many improvements by Crafty)
- hi-res patch [Created by Mash]

OPTIONAL MODS:
- Weapon Drop Mod [Created by Josan12 and MIB88]
--- Customizable distance values.
- "Nixie Numbers" for GUI

INCLUDED UTILITIES:
- Two tools that can be run before running FalloutW.exe (not made by me) are included in the [Fallout]\Scrambled Colors Fixes folder, to help with those experiencing color palette issues.
Thank you, this is very reassuring. :)

Rysa: snip
I just want to point out, that the links no longer work as NMA reorganized the content. Same goes for most links in the Fallout 2 MODs thread.

Not really a huge deal since people should just install Fallout Fixt for Fallout 1 anyway which you can get at Moddb: http://www.moddb.com/mods/fallout-fixt/downloads

It contains everything listed in the OP in one convenient installer.
