I've just got the game and believe I have a nice setup for it. Thought I'd share it with everyone here in case anyone else wants to give it a try.
1) Install the game from GOG's installer.
2) Apply the unofficial 1.1 patch from here:
http://www.n1nj4.com/EvilPlanet/TheGame/mod_unofficialpatch.php
3) Install the World Domination Starter Kit (now available on GOG's extras for the game)
To do this, extract the zip file to a folder and run the WorldDominationStarterPack.exe and point it at your Evil Genius installation.
4) Optional - skip the intro movie (thanks to Ralackk for the info in his post)
Edit the concept.cfg file, changing StartupState from 0 to 1.
5) Skip the copyright screen (thanks again to Ralackk for his post)
Edit the concept.cfg file, changing CopyrightScreenDuration=10 to 0.
6) Optional - use Racer S's Universal Resolution Changer to get the game running in a window. Get it from the Widescreen Gaming Forum and extract it to the Evil Genius/ReleaseEXE folder. Edit the resolution.ini file to your chosen resolution and to be able to choose to force a windowed mode.

What does that do for you. I haven't used it yet.

The World Domination Starter Kit (the 250MB download) contains extra material for Evil Genius. To use it you just extract the file to a temporary folder and run the World Domination Starter Kit executable then you'll get the install flash screen where you can view a video, a comic and a poster about Colonel Blackheart. Click the install button and point it at your Evil Genius install folder and it'll install the extras. Once it's done you can safely delete the temporary folder where you extracted the bonusCD zip file to.
The bonus pack contains a new henchman, Colonel Blackheart, and some new items (a reclining chair) and traps (nut-cruncher something or other). You have to unlock the missions and research items in the game to be able to get them though.
Thanks for the info. A couple of other changes for the concept.cfg file that may be useful are:

1). In the [GameCamera] section change the following line:

MaxHeight=50.0

to 80.0 or higher. This will allow you to zoom out further which can be handy when managing a large base or figuring the best location for a hotel.

2.) EvilGenius will create a Debug.log in the root folder (C:\ on most systems) - this can be relocated to EG's game folder by changing the following line in the [debug] section:

Debug output path=

Add the path for EG's game folder, using / characters in place of \ - e.g. if you accepted the GOG installer's default location (I never do) this should probably be

Debug output path=C:/Program Files/GOG.com/Evil Genius/

3). There is an advanced shadow option in the [Graphics] section though I didn't notice any difference myself:

ShadowDetailLevel=1

Setting this to 2 is supposed to add volumetric shadowing.

The Evil Genius FAQ has a few other useful tweaks available.

Isn't World Domination Kit already included with GOG release?

You can download it separately under 'extras' for this game. It isn't included by default with installer.

Any ideas how to do it for the Mac version?

Hi,
to install any patch/pack into Evil Genius ctrl-click or right click on Evil Genius app and pick "Show Package Contents". Run Wineskin.app, then choose: Install Software and then Choose Setup Executable.

AstralWanderer: Thanks for the info. A couple of other changes for the concept.cfg file that may be useful are:

1). In the [GameCamera] section change the following line:

MaxHeight=50.0

to 80.0 or higher. This will allow you to zoom out further which can be handy when managing a large base or figuring the best location for a hotel.
Some good tips! I'd totally forgotten that I did this ages ago myself! Although, I thought the original was 40.0 (it might be different in the GOG version), as I upped this to 50.0. I originally had it set to around 80.0-100.0 as well, but on the second island this can slow the game down quite a bit (depending on how good your rig is of course). So if it starts to chug, reduce it so you don't "accidentally" zoom out and have it lag annoyingly!

Additionally I would add the following:

4) Min height/angle of camera

MinHeight=2.0
MinAngle 2.15

This is changed from the default of 7.0 for MinHeight and 2.55 for MinAngle, respectively. What this does is it allows ALMOST a 1st-person view, so you can see the base (almost) through the eyes of your evil genius (using the right CTRL key)!

The above is purely personal preference, since I love "walking" (virtually) through my vast base. Note that you may get weird graphics glitches and/or significant lag if you reduce the MinAngle any more than that (at 2.15 it's not quite 1P - still aimed a little bit at the ground - but it avoids accidental mouse twitches slowing things down).

The MinHeight allows a much closer zoom, which is really cool on the second island looking at your... well the what's in the centre of your base... ;)

5) Increase scroll speed:

ScrollSpeed=30.0

This is because scrolling from one end of the island to the other (on the second island) took FOREVER, at least for me...

GAMEPLAY MODS:

Deviating from the topic slightly, but have seen little mention of these ones on here so thought I'd share them as I found them to be useful for my playstyle. I won't add the population cap mod since that's described pretty well already in other topics.

6) Increased time before death in cells:

Something that is also REALLY useful, if you like to take your time deciding on who to torture that is, is to change the settings of the Death Cubicle, Disguised Cell and Security Holding Cell so that they drain health much slower. Details are at the above-posted link (modding section I think). I can provide details/files if you can't find them at that link.

7) Adding the ability for your "bodyguards" to actually recover all of their stats

Finally, either one of the most useful or most useless mods you can make, depending on whether you care about your so-called "bodyguards"... There should be a mod at that link somewhere that has three config files (.desc files), one for each of the Evil Geniuses. If you change all the EntityType fields in each file from:

"EntityType=Minion"

to

"EntityType=Minion,Plaything"

then your "bodyguards" (playthings) can get their stats regenerated by your Evil Genius' Area Effects (including health if you kill a minion near them), as opposed to never being able to regenerate any of their stats ever (no idea why someone thought it made sense to have bodyguards that cannot regenerate ANY stats)... Again, files should be in the modding area at the link provided by AstralWanderer, but I may have tweaked them a bit differently (can't remember, it's been a while).

BTW for the .desc file mods - simply copy them into the DynamicResources folder of your EG installation, and they'll get automatically picked up (and will override any other values specified anywhere else - I think they take precedence over tables too).

One final thing - I'd personally recommend against the mod(s) that add security stuff to hotels. I've found it doesn't really add much, as for some reason social minions seem to magically go where they're needed anyway. That, and speakers/cameras in hotels tends to attract unwanted attention of the heavy calibre variety...

_Lectral: Hi,
to install any patch/pack into Evil Genius ctrl-click or right click on Evil Genius app and pick "Show Package Contents". Run Wineskin.app, then choose: Install Software and then Choose Setup Executable.
This didn't work for me; Wineskin would always end up complaining that it couldn't find the executable file it was looking for. What ended up working for me, after showing the package contents, was to copy the relevant patch/update folder somewhere in the "drive_c" folder (or a subfolder). Then I ran Wineskin.app, choose "Advanced", changed the "Windows EXE" value to point to the appropriate executable I had just copied, closed Wineskin.app, ran the main "Evil Genius.app", and finally repeated the steps in this sentence but changing the "Windows EXE" value back to the original "EvilGeniusLauncher.exe".

On the plus side, the Mac version doesn't need to use Racer S's resolution change to run in a window. Run the game and choose your favourite resolution using the in-game options, then quit the game. Then show the package contents, run Wineskin.app, choose "Set Screen Options", and change the settings to "Rootless (windowed)" and "Virtual Desktop at: [the resolution you set in the in-game options]". Close Wineskin.app and the game itself should now run in a window at your chosen resolution.

Yes, I have it working on my Mac (Col. Blackheart shows up in-game). I put the steps I followed in the post you quoted. I realize it may sound complicated. Is there a particular part of what I wrote you'd like some clarification on?

I think that's right, the recliner chair is listed as a bonus item from the world domination starter kit, and I have it in my game, so I think you're all set!

1) Is it unrelevant to install the unofficial 1.1 patch after or before World Domination Starter Kit?

2) Do i need the entire content of Bonus CD to install World Domination Starter Kit? Can I burn only "setup.exe" on DVD with the GOG's installer and the unofficial patch?
