I detected a gl.dll render in the game directory and i saw that on the environment.cfg file it was using the Direct3D8 render as default, so by curiosity i changed it to OpenGL started the game and bam! much better graphics, the game menu became a tad dark but in game it looks miles better then the D3D8 version. This is no surprise because back then OpenGL was much superior to D3D.
Only true if you are playing at 1680x1050 because in D3D8 it renders the game at 16 bits, if that is your case then on the environment.cfg change the render to OpenGL and the 16 on the resolution to 32, problem solved, it seams there's some differences between the D3D8 and the OGL render but i personally didn't felt like something was missing.
