Hi,

There's a port available for this game, that makes it more modern. It supports mods too (including hires textures/characters).

Instructions and download links here:
https://www.dfworkshop.net
It's not a port, but a front-end (requires the original game), and it's not yet functionally fully complete (latest release is 0.13.5 BETA), nor can you get the interface to work exactly like in the original game (which probably doesn't matter for players who don't know the classic game, or don't like its classic user interface).

Please educate yourself before posting please. Daggerfall unity has been feature complete for a few years now. That is what "Beta" means. Its feature complete. Everything intended to be in the official release is there.

Are you talking about the HUD? If so, the old school HUD works. press enter to use a cursor and then click on what action you want.

Daggerfall Unity is in playable Beta, in the sense that all of the original's features are implemented and only adjustments and slight bug fixes are worked on. The game is thus fully playable. It boasts an active modding scene on Daggerfall Unity Nexus as well.

I admit that I hadn't read the roadmap status of DFU for some time. Yes, DFU is function-complete with respect to the roadmap goals since about one and a half years. My mistake.

Regarding the HUD, pleease tell me how I can configure DFU to let me do the following: Play with cursor activated (default: ENTER), and at the same time use "turn left" and "turn right". I can slide left and right, but don't know how to turn without pressing ENTER again.
Please don't tell me that you think playing in this way makes no sense, that I should change the way I prefer to play, or that you think only a minority of players is interested in this feature - it's simply the way I've been playing Daggerfall from the beginning, and playing differently is more difficult for me.

With that said, DFU is a great frontend for Daggerfall, not least because it's very open for modding.
And it's available on GOG :) Awsome move CDP.
uh... linux version?
hello?

guess i can go download it myself....
Didn't check yet, but I suppose the Linux version isn't included due to the choice of mods, some being Windows only. Is that the reason ?
Only few mods (say, the ones including custom shaders, or videos) need to be compiled specifically for Linux. Others are compiled for Windows, but are actually portable across .NET platforms.

I was wondering this, too. I was thinking of compiling the Linux binary and then just using the assets from the GOG download :-)

It is not at all a front-end, that would be a program that sets options and launches the original. It is a remake in Unity engine. It requires the original because it uses art / certain assets from the original, but the code is a complete ground-up rewrite.

Correct - I should watch my language better :-(.
does this port add controller support?

Yes.
I haven't used it though, I'm terrible with a controller, no matter the game ;)
My biggest barrier for playing this game has been the controls. Are they still dog shit?
