The GOG crew are on the ball and have immediately contacted us to talk about DK2 :) The exact moment when we'll launch here remains to be seen. After all, the game is still more than half a year away.

"Door Kickers 2 casts the player as leader of the eponymous Task Force, handling units such as the US Rangers and assets like drones to respond to threats, solve crises and hunt the enemy on his own turf." - from the official announcement.

I can't wait. I was caught off guard by Door Kickers, having only recently bought it not previously hearing about it, and do not regret in the least purchasing it. Great game. Looking forward to the next game, especially the military aspect of it. Nice to hear that GOG has already contacted the developers. I wonder if, judging from the quote above, the Switchblade drone will be an option. I recently watched a PBS Nova documentary "Rise of the Drones" which had a segment on these. Basically a backpack mini spy drone that can be piloted into a spotted enemy and detonated. Would love to use it in a game.

I am definitely looking forward to any news on the launch here.
"The sequel to the critic and public-acclaimed Door Kickers moves the action to the Middle East and puts the player in control of military Special Operations Teams fighting an elusive Terrorist Network."

I imagine my face looked something like this upon reading: -_-

A disturbingly regressive direction for a 2016 game narrative, but on the other hand I felt that Door kickers should have been a military game anyhow and not have a police aesthetic so I'm quite on board with the sequel still. Door Kickers is one of the slickest and most flawless games of 2014/2015, I'm sure the talented development team can outdo themselves with a new title.

Devs stated that would be no links to real facts. Fictional Middle East locations, imaginary terrorists. The old Good Guys vs Bad Guys.

Yeah but that is precisely the problem. The world does not need more entertainment media riding on a wave of casual racism in which muslim lives are barely worth the bombs and bullets expended. Making up an entirely fictional setting in which to kill brown people is a widely accepted sickness. If you're about to say "But you are only going to kill terrorists in the game" then you're just further illustrating the point: If your entertainment involves fictional arabs or muslims, it is almost exclusively in antagonistic, dehumanising roles.

I'd be quite thrilled to see a game in which the Iraqi army and the Kurds get to be heroes on the battlefield against ISIS. I'd take that any day over a fictional dehumanised set up. I wouldn't be having this conversation if games, movies, TV etc was more diverse and fair.

Surely someone will make a mod this way.
Door Kickers 1 was quite simplistic in "story" and "motivation" and sometimes criticized for it - the bad guys didn't have a name, they didn't surrender, they just pointed guns at the police and got killed. If the in-game police didn't kill them they killed the police. Quite simple, and unfortunately real life arrives at such binary choices sometimes.

For Door Kickers 2 we are going the fictional route but want to portray a complex and realistic world - while playing on the strengths and limitations of the top down view. We feel that in real world, the truth is more complicated than "all arabs and only arabs are bad". Here in Romania we have seen Romanians killing Romanians. We have witnessed Yugoslavia break up in bloody civil war and are feeling the heat of the Ukraine crisis.

Door Kickers 2 will be centered around its campaign and the concept of using the right unit on the right mission - if its available. The campaign is inspired by Mark Urban's book "Task Force Black" and the thing is, it took both the Surge and the Sunni Awakening to defeat AQ in Iraq. In other words, Iraqis defeated AQI.

We feel that in our fictional world the player should need to take into account the interest of various factions and try to bring them to his side. Using the right unit will play a factor here, and we aim to add indigenous units that the player will be able to use, with specific advantages and disadvantages. So your suggestion for using Iaqi army or Kurds as heroes goes in line wiht our thoughts, though of course we're talking a fictional country here.

Hope this makes sense,

I am pleasantly surprised to hear this. My apologies for coming on strong earlier assuming this was going to be another game that treats "the middle east" as merely a hopeless dehumanised playground for violent war fantasies. I don't know how you are going to implement faction dynamics as meaningful gameplay in what is almost entirely a tight tactical game, but I'm very excited to hear that you're trying to do SOMETHING, anything, with nuance. A mixed task force that cooperates with the local government is a good way of humanising the setting without alienating the majority of players who want to see traditional relatable American'ish protagonists.

I'd love to be able to say one day that games are more inclusive, respectful and believable than big budget cinema. Looking forward to seeing more of Door Kickers 2. In the meantime, Door Kickers 1 still has a lot of staying power, it is one of the games I'm most fond of here on GOG which is why I included it in a GOGmix: https://www.gog.com/mix/excellence_in_game_design

Very interesting info! Nice surprise!
Been playing Door Kickers for a while now and enjoying it. Any updated news on 2's release date? Last I saw above was "After all, the game is still more than half a year away", and that was posted back in March. Looking forward to it.
