There's no reason to defend or attack anyone, users or corporations. GoG provides a service, and Steam provides another. I've just come to the realization that Steam's service fits my particular needs better than GoG's, and I'm sorry for that because I would like to support CD Projekt and the fellows over there.

I'll still keep using the service, just not for new games that my part-time business relies on.

It could work only with Galaxy really as GOG staff would still have to build the standalone installers. I'm sure some goggers who don't use Galaxy would complain about being threated second class citizens but I personally would not mind as at least that way we'd know patch has been updated and spend two months wondering wether or not it's coming here. Maybe it'd put some pressure for GOG devs to push standalone builds/pathces out as soon as possible too. ;-p

I posted this in my own topic, but as this topic is getting the same amount of posts, I might as well post it here too.

For others that have this problem and need a work-around without torrents, etc. If you are based on the same network/LAN as the other player. You can copy the GOG version over to the other pc and use that to play with.

You can launch the game via the executable in the "Shipping" folder.
E.g.: "C:\Games\Divinity - Original Sin Enhanced Edition\Shipping\EoCApp.exe"

GOG's version has a slightly different folder name by default, so you can just copy/paste it next to your Steam version.

It's a bit of a hassle, but at least it will allow you to play without getting patches from different locations.

I know this isn't a proper solution, and not really a solution at all if you play via the internet, but if it's LAN based gaming like I do, this isn't too bad in the meantime. It's mainly an issue while the game has just been released and will probably get quite a few updates in the next days.

I'm as eager as everyone here to get the latest patch(s), especially if I was playing with a friend on Steam, but this is just the way GOG works (Galaxy might alleviate this in future but is still relatively new compared to Steam). As has been mentioned multiple times developers press a button on Steam and a patch is uploaded, but here is the old fashioned way, with a personal touch.

Give it a little while and the patches will settle a bit, I'm am also happy that this game has been getting lots o' love lately..what with the new edition(free to original owners)...it's easy to forget I've got two games for the price of one..

In the old days we'd sometimes have to wait weeks for game patches that took months to develop, and the most common delivery route was floppy disk via snail mail--or a game magazine CD circular *next month*...;) And you're bitching about 20 minutes...? Agreed! I think Larian should perform an awards ceremony and present Raze with the "Oakleaf Cluster of Valor" (or something similar) for duty "above and beyond" on behalf of Larian. (And you are so right about current recipients on the Nobel not deserving of it!)
