MrTrigun: Hear ye, hear ye! A guy from ModDB called arti9m posted something neat in DX Revision comments section..though it got buried quickly under all that hate/praise. And that neat thing is original Revision.exe completely stripped of all the annoying Steam DRM. I don't know who made it...heh, could be "leaked" by the devs themselves. :D But it's 100% legit and clean..tested it myself. And all the features we lost with the Kentie launcher workaround now work as they should so you can switch between original and new soundtrack, Shifter/BioMod/vanilla gameplay style, the new loading screens show and new HUD/menus color schemes are available.
So for those interested..here's the link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33786936/Revision.zip

Kimuji: Just tested, it works just fine. Their launcher and Kentie's seem to be stepping on each other's toes so you have to choose which one you want to use and saved games don't seem to be compatible. Thanks for the link!

Original Revision exe pros:
- well that's the one suppposed to work better with the mod
- you can switch between soundtracks in the game's option menu
- a few additionnal color schemes for the UI

Original Revision exe cons:
- not as flexible as Kentie's launcher, less options
- HUD/UI management is not a good as Kentie's

If that's an "unofficial leak" coming from the devs, they're all forgiven as far as I'm concerned. It was probably the best they could do given the situation they were in thanks to Square Enix' Drek heads.
Saves are incompatible in a... interesting way.
If you use "true" Revision to load a "kentie" Revision savegame... the game reverts to kentie Revision, menu lag and lack of options included. I'm trying to make it work - it SHOULD work.
Deus Exe requires the Visual C++ 2015 runtimes installed; official page of the launcher provides the x86 version of the runtime. Revision works only with x64 systems. Should we install x86 or x64 version of Visual C++ 2015?

I am running Revision after having installed only the x86 version of the C++ 2015 runtime.

I am running with neither the Steam nor the GOG version of the game; I actually bought the game upon its original release.

The x86 version.
So, what is the best way to enjoy this mod with a gog version and how to get it?

http://yetiograch.pl/gry/renowacja-klasyki-deus-ex/ <---- I made a tutorial some time ago, with all these mods in place. Makes it woking, and makes it better.

The problem is it's in Polish. So you would probably need Google Translate, to understand. It's writen in a easy way, so a translator should be enough.
I reached Hell's Kitchen last night using the Revision exe (the one without the Steam check), and it's going perfectly well so far, way better than Kentie's Launcher, in fact. So I would recommend that method over using Kentie's Launcher.

DrYaboll: We are officially Steam-exclusive at the request of Square Enix...
I'm curious, why does Square Enix get to force these guys to be Steam-exclusive, but mods like The Nameless Mod, Nihilum, Burden of 80 Proof, Zodiac, Redsun 2020, etc. are free to be distributed and played with any version of Deus Ex. I'm definitely no expert and I'd love to be proven wrong but that sounds, to me at least, like a line of bullshit from Caustic Creative.

Probably because it's supposed to be a direct upgrade/remaster of the entire original game (hence why Steam treats it as a DLC). The other mods you mentioned are TCs with new campaigns that are either fan-fiction (Nihilum, Redsun) or set in a different universe (TNM).

Squeenix might've seen endorsing Revision as a chance to shut up those asking for an official Deus Ex remake/remaster - while not really doing a thing (besides screwing over those who already bought the game 15 years ago, without DRM).

I feel that whole mess was actually backup plan for failed Mankind Divided pre-order thing.
Sounds stupid? That's the SE (and modern companies/corporations) for you.
Someone said about another attempts for paid mods, by starting from niche games.
Which is funny argument.
Starting from Deus Ex, who is niche enough to start with paid mods again, and yet enough to make Rev steam exclusive.

There is so many logical holes, yet steam users see no problem here.

EDIT:
and thanks for the launcher, can't wait to test it myself.

The mod isn't paid.

Fenixp: The mod isn't paid.
A DLC (what an paid mod essentialy is) would be better than a platform exclusive mod.
Now we have to have a load of fun with making it fully work with the CD and GOG version of the game.

VanishedOne: Bikerdude on the TDM forum noticed that apparently S-E 'authorised' the mod but explicitly does not 'endorse' it. So you get a publisher-backed, Steam-exclusive mod without a publisher's quality control.
Usually when SquareEnix's name is on anything fan related I go running for the hills.

Crimson Echoes anyone?

Fenixp: The mod isn't paid.
It's tantamount to a paid mod. Squenix are using Revision to drive sales of Deus Ex on Steam. A proportion of those sales are going to be to people who own a retail or GOG copy of the game. The efforts of fellow Goggers to make this mod work with other versions of the game haven't exactly been widely publicised. Some will double dip for the convenience of having it work at a click of a button.

I don't like being encouraged to purchase a game from one outlet rather than another (on launch day, Caustic Creative were actively encouraging people on their Facebook page to seek a refund from GOG and to buy Deus Ex on Steam), and I don't like being expected to double dip.

It stinks.

I'm not arguing with any of that, but it's not a paid mod. Let's call things what they actually are if you want to be understood.
