The game has some very "interesting" combat mechanics.
I'd rather read about the game on a non-cesspool forum, thanks.
Tried the German demo, and man, the German Voice-Acting is horrible. Some random dude off the street reading the Yellow-Pages is more fun.

And this being set in the Dark Eye, Germany's premium P&P and yet they couldn't find some enthusiastic people to do the Voicing.

I've tried the demo as well and in the first minutes there were Erik Schäffler, Klaus Dittman, Peter Weis - all experienced actors with great voices and much talent. Every audio drama director in Germany would be very pleased to have such well-sounding names in his cast.

Indeed. That´s why we´re here. Cause we want to talk like humans and the most of us are above 25 (i hope) ...

And by the way about the game... it looks interesting, but it is pricey. Not that i´m penurious, but 40 bucks...
I understand that people worked and are still working on it, and i agree that you have to pay for products. And they have the right to charge money for it, they have a live.
But that price - class is not mine - sorry!

Well..i bought it yesterday...and planned to take a quick look...after 8hours..i noticed that i played far into the night althought i where lightly annoyed buy the loot i got :) and some smaller technical issues.
8 hours...and juging from the Info the Questlog and the Map gives me...i barly half through the 1 of 5 chapters...

Making a cost-benefit analysis ;) compared to others games or even different kinds of Entertainment the game seem to be worth the money.

Edit:
I nearly gave up buying new games(younger then 6 month) a few years ago...if i buy a new game it's either for supporting the company or because i realy love the concept...but i remember well the times where i payed 40-60 EUR for a new AAA game...only to find out that i bought a alphaversion...and after it was finaly playable..it turned out to be 16-48h playtime nobrainer without depth or story and zero replayworth.

Compared to those sonamed AAA-titles...blackguard is allready a good game ;)

Agreed. I´m byuing too if i want to support developers and i´m alright with charging money. But like you said: too often i was disappointed, so now i´m a bit reserved in the +25$ area.

Edit: And hell yeah, it´s so great if a game makes you forget a clock and the next morning. So... thinking ´bout it.

Then don't.
The combat is a very good tactical, turn-based version of The Dark Eye system. It's not D&D, so if that's your baseline, this will take some adjustment, but it flows well and the partially interactive environments are a nice upgrade from the old 2-D isometric style.

The Steam forums also look fairly mixed, actually. There are quite a few people who really like the game and a fair number of others who seem to be struggling to explain why they don't like it for any reason other than that the system is new for them and they're too impatient to figure it out. That's fair enough, but it's not the fault of the game. It's not THAT complex, and players can always use easy difficulty and basic mode if they want help with character stats.

I also love how Daedalic invested time and effort in making the world map beautiful, the battle maps interesting, and the towns efficient. It's like playing chess with a story/purpose on a classy board.

Hey, seeing that you've already played quite a bit of it, maybe you could answer some questions? I tried the demo and some things didn't seem to work as intended, but since this was only the demo, I'd like to know if they have been fixed in the final release version:

1. The item category pictures in the rag doll inventory didn't seem to match the items I could put there, e.g. the slot for the shoes showed a helmet picture, the slot for the armor a belt picture etc.

2. In the third battle *MILD SPOILER* when you can free the prisoners, one cell lever was highlighted as usable but it was unclickable so I couldn't let the guy out *SPOILER END*.

3. Maybe I just didn't understand how this works, but when the game asked me to cast a level 2 wall of fire, I selected a spot, the spot was highlighted in orange, but nothing else happened. I could cancel the spell and try again, but it would never actually fire. I tried with the level 1 wall and that worked perfectly fine. The mana pool of the character was also full and had more mana than the spell would require, so that couldn't have been the cause of this issue.

Apart from that, I'd like to know, is the prison break representative of the whole game or are there significant changes later on? I mean, does it always alternate between choosing locations on a map and fighting battles? Or is there also some free exploration where you can control the characters outside of the fights? Not that I mind much if there isn't, but it would be rather unusual for a RPG.

Number 1 is still unfixed.
Numbr 2 requires you to use the radial menu, click on the lever with the right button, then click on the hand button.
Number 3 occurs because the level 2 wall spell affects 2 squares, so you have to specify a second tile you want affected by the spell.

There's no real free exploration but there are town and dungeon sections where you can solve puzzles and/or intract with other NPCs
I liked the fresh mechanics. Great tactical RPG.

Thanks! Regarding number 2, I was able to use all other levers by clicking on them though, so it seems this is a bug, too?
It sure looks like it.
