OK, so we have Blackguards Special edition here, will the ordinary cheaper version be on GoG ?

I ask because I refuse to pay this sort of money for a game that they are still patching, and I have no use for the stuff that comes with this. Some are reporting a show stopping bug right near the end of the game.

Other thing is am I right to assume this is DRM free and not tied to Steam ?

Where as gaming gone with all this paying full price for games that are not finished ?

* GOG policy has always been to include as many bonus and expansions as possible to the games they carry. It' s one of their selling points. Normally, this isn't a problem for oldies, but for new games, it can raise the price by a fair margin. That explains the "special edition" here.

Note that they are beginning to carry multiple editions of the same game (look AOW3, for example), but it's not (yet?) the norm. And the GOG store is not really organized to carry different "deluxe" editions or DLCs : Each one is listed as an independent game, which is kind of a mess if you're looking at the catalog.

* It's DRM free, yes. No Steam game here (and not this one, anyway). Dowload the installer, install, play. No need to be online, no need to register, no need to run any client program. It's clean.

* For the "early entry" comment, I find it a little harsh. It's pretty much as good as any release nowadays. Meaning there was a few glaring bugs at release, but all those that I had encountered have been patched since. I'm in the middle of chapter 4 (out of 5), and I encountered no noticeable bug since the last patch. I think the current version is good.
Of course, if there was a game-breaking bug right at the end, I will obviously not have seen it yet. But frankly, I doubt it, as there would have been an outcry with the people here that already finished the game.

* For the price : It's your call. Especially since it's the kind of game you either love or despise. Personally, I think it was worth every Euro I spent on it :)

This version is not tied to Steam at all, as Kardwill has already mentioned.

Our version is the middle of the road version, that is the game is the same but the content as far as bonus goodies and the ability to sell the game in German (you would not believe how much of a selling point it is to have a game made by a German developer come with German as a language selection :) ) is what makes the difference. Basically, it's not the standard edition but it's not the full blown edition of the game with the artbook and such.

So far Blackguards has received one patch and it doesn't appear to be one of those games that's going to be patched every single week but there will be patches in the future, I am sure.

Thanks for the reply, I am leaning strongly towards buying it from yourselves as I prefer DRM free games.

@Kardwill: Many thanks for your reply also.

It has been said twice before, but I'll do it again: This game isn't a buggy mess. All bugs I have encountered are minor (for example: On the inventory screen the symbols for helmet and boots are swapped. But if you select some boots, the correct box is highlighted. So you won't end up trying to strap some boots onto your head :-P ) and don't really affect the gameplay. The patches are mostly balancing and usability improvements, based on the feedback of the players. So you can't really say Daedalic still has to finish the development process.

Blackguards is a good game... if you really like turn based tactical combat! Because that's what you'll get 99% of the game.

I just like to say that I did not know TDE and I am still not familiar with p&p RPGs. I'm also not such a fan of strategy either. I tried the demo of Blackguard only out of curiosity and because it is a Daedalic Game. Spent 10hrs on the demo and bought the game yesterday on DRM sale on GOG. The game has a way to make you addictive and the gameplay is so fluent after you learned the basics of it. Great job Daedalic - thank you GOG.

One question though: I installed the game yesterday and wanted to apply the newest patch. The game however tells me that I already have the newest version of the game. Did GOG already make a new build with the newest version so you don't need the patch anymore?

The installer is always the newest version of the game. GOG just offers the patch files for those that have downloaded an earlier installer. Redownloading 4.1GB (to get a patched game!) sucks. Downloading a 82.5MB patch file isn't a huge problem.
