Poe's law has me unsure if this is a prank or not (since Gog advertises
Balder's Gate as "arguably the best RPG of all time").
Okay, I'll play, even though this is an obvious trawl, with the (latterly expressed) OP's intent to display a contrary opinion. Or, to put it in Monty Python speak:
Yes, we're all different.
I'm not. Bookwyrm627: Combat 101 Step 1: Look for something with a red circle around it. The red circle means the thing doesn't like you.
Step 2: Click on your character. If you've managed to move around, then you should be able to figure out how to click your character.
Step 3: Click on the thing with the red circle.
You just told your character to attack the enemy. Good job! I've attached a gold star for you!
tx3000: […] There is no way a player would ever know that because none of that is even mentioned in the game at the time it should be […]
Sophistry. You don't want a game, you want a movie to watch.
tx3000: […]
2 Ok i looked through the manuals and they're total shit and about as useless as telling someone who doesn't know Greek, to learn it on their own without any help from anyone or getting help from anywhere and if they don't it's their fault.
[…]
1 Also don't try saying being rude won't get you help because no one is helping anyway and have yet to help. All people have done is pass the buck then says stop complaining.
People like you guys who do that should be banned from any forum because all you are there for is to instigate problems and provoke people, then try to play victim.
[1] Total narcissism. (Let's hope you are faking it, but I doubt it.) Every reply has tried to give specific instructions, that are easy to follow, and that —— if one is truly struggling but happy to attempt to improve —— are straightforward.
Since you are still complaining, you obviously had an agenda. Congratulations! You ARE different!
[2] I highly recommend it, if you are intelligent. (Peter Jones does have two excellent primers, one for Latin and one for Classical Greek, both of which I highly recommend.)
Unfortunately, curiosity is highly correlated with intelligence, and since you are (deliberately or otherwise) lacking in the ability to experiment with the very responsive user interface, I can't say you are intelligent enough to enjoy the game. If you struggle with making such a simple determination as to how to equip your character or how to survive combat, after the tutorial demonstrates this, then you will fail to grasp the more advanced aspects of the game.
You will get nowhere with your attitude in this game. It demands the player extend themselves out of the comfort zone, to explore and remember.
You are demonstrating wilfull ignorance and a severe shade of learned helplessness.
If you wish to persevere, learning to play this game is an excellent pathway to fix your self-destructive impulses, though I doubt you would care to place yourself in such a vulnerable position, even in the privacy of your own home. Your loss.
Bookwyrm627: […] The details you are demanding indicate that you aren't capable of the independent thought that will be required throughout these games. Be thankful that you found an uncrossable hurdle right at the very start and go play something else. Might I suggest buying a slinky?
Exactly. Not every game is meant for everyone. The OP really should stick to visual novels, since reading is such a chore.
Engerek01: That's not the OP's fault. The new generation got used to the hand holding of the newer games which made their minds lazy. They can't think, they can't read and they have absolutely no idea of trial and error. […]
To Mr Tx3000: If you took offense in my writing, you shouldn't even attempt to play those games. They will eat you alive. However, if my writing made you think and question yourself instead of the game, and if you are REALLY determined to enjoy those priceless classics, let me know. I'll give you all the help I can.
I reject your patronizing assessment of the millennial gamer.
I second your motion, however. The community of players have all encountered the EXACT situation the OP outlines, but learnt how to adapt and thrive. Hopefully this appeals to the OP enough to snap him out of his mental illness.*
CFM: To think that the rest of us were somehow, some
way, able to figure it out.... we must be really,
really smart!
jsidhu762: When a person is born, he or she can do a bunch of things without being taught; eating, sleeping, breathing...and playing Baldur's Gate. OP was born without this knowledge. It sound like a disability.
Actually suckling is the first thing an infant learns, lest it starve. (It is a complex process that requires swallowing without aspirating the mouthful of milk, but seems to be well within the scope of a newborn.)
________
* The OP is stricken with infant narcissism, if your are interested, first identified by Sigmund Freud. The infant expects the world to be exactly as he imagines it to be, and nothing else.
edit: lots of shenanigans with forum software and obsessive perfectionism in expression.
