If anything I'd expect the steam version to be more expensive because of the large(ish) cut valve takes
before the devs see the money at all..

DRM free is always a plus, but not sure it's worth paying more for what essentially is the same product.

phowen: Also, how is the GoG version DRM free? You are forced to use the Galaxy client to play multiplayer. That's the same as on Steam, as you have to use Steam to play multiplayer. See the other thread here for more info.

bgilliford: What if we don't care to have our stats/victories/achievements tracked? Will there be future support for direct IP connectivity and LAN play?

255 Norwegian kroner = 29.24289 U.S. dollars (at 25% off) STEAM

340 Norwegian kroner = 38.99052 U.S. dollars (full price) STEAM

40.79 U.S. dollars = 355.691589 Norwegian kroner (at 25% off) GOG

54,49 U.S. dollars = 475,156525 Norwegian kroner (full price) GOG

So 40,79 (gog) vs 29.24 (steam) when at 25%.
And 54,49 (gog) vs 38.99 (steam) when not discounted.

Quite the difference, but yea, local conversion on steams part might be what's up.
Not often it's in our (consumer) favor though!

And yea, drm free, as in "I can install, start, play, uninstall, install start play" without needing any stupid logins\verification
and so on. Multiplayer is it's own beast, but I still don't consider it drm just because I need to use a launcher to connect to other players. If that was the case then gameranger, gamespy and so on is also drm (which they are not).

Anyways, I'll keep an eye on the game, I will most likely hold off buying for awhile though. as I've been burned more often than not with early access.

Blade2k2: I see this game is now $25 on both steam & stardock's site.
GOG version is still $50.

Islanti: LAN play is not going to be available with the initial release of Ashes of the Singularity. It is a feature we hope to add later.

As I've explained elsewhere, Ashes of the Singularity uses the GOG platform for multiplayer. The game simply tells GOG "send this data to this player ID". GOG handles everything beyond that: IP addressing, TCP/UDP transport, NAT traversal, etc.

Adding direct IP play requires a lot of work because the game would need to know how to "speak" IP and handle all those details. LAN play is less complicated but still significant. At this point few people are asking for these features.

If this is something you are interested in seeing added to Ashes of the Singularity I suggest visiting our forums ( http://forums.ashesgame.com ) and giving your feedback. This will have more visibility with folks at Stardock. We do listen to our customers when planning future updates.
