i know this series by the name "out of this world" and I'm curious if this has got part 2 (where you control the big alien dude) included in it.
i remember in the sega cd version it had both and you could play through the first part and then immediately pick up on the second.
Nop, Heart of the Alien is not included.
Funny you mentioned it, the manual of HotA is on my desk as I type :P
I never played HotA. I was always worried it wouldn't live up to the first.
Heart of Alien was Sega MegaCD exclusive and has never been realeased on PC. Most people agree that it is inferior to Another World. Eric Chahi was at first against this continuation and in his own opinion it was "flop".

In case anyone in the US is confused, the MegaCD was released as the Sega CD in the USA.
I have a SegaCD and played HotA. It's interesting to see a conclusion to the story from the first game, and it certainly has the same cinematic look, but something feels off.
To me, it's kind of like what The Matrix: Reloaded did to the original. Add some depth to the story, but the charm and sense of wonder from the first suffers.
What we really want next is Flashback but on here, also made by Delphine Software. That game was incredible! (it isn't the sequel to Another World but it's simular gameplay).

Flashback is indeed an awesome game, but I think (I am not certain of this) that it has been released as freeware. If not that, it is certainly obtainable for free from abandonware sites, which of course raises the usual legal questions. I would happily pay a GOG price for a GOG release of it though; I have fond memories of that one and I think I never technically managed to finish it despite getting almost to the very end. My worry is that it won't be possible for GOG to get the rights to sell it.
I loved both Flashback and Out of This World (aka Another World). Finished both on Sega Genesis, love them equally. Both have sequels. Tried Heart of the Alien on my Sega CD and it was OK, but didn't get very far (it was a rental). Purchased Flashback 2 for PC (called Fade to Black), but they made it 3D and it was slow and difficult to control.

I have to say i found HotA to be a complete mess. I didn't find out about until a few years ago, having been a fan of Another world ever since i was a kid i emulatore'd HotA straight away. I'm really glad i didn't play it as a kid. The world of AW has grown on me for about 15 years, and has become quite a vivid place. Playing HotA as a kid would deficiently have set a stop to that. The game retains none of the magic of the original. The controls are a mess, the story is forgettable at best and the character of the alien is not evolved (?) at all. One could argue that the characters weren't really fleshed out in the original either, and that this contributed to the magical mystery of the game.
But in the sequal, straight away, Lester is shown to have died. And the alien, who brilliantly remained left to the imagination throughout the first game, is STILL completely left to the imagination.. Even as the protagonist. I don't understand this.. Well, i won't ramble on any further. The sequel is sterile, the controls are broken, the character of the alien is still a mystery (but not in the good way), and LESTER IS KILLED OF !!!?!?!?

Pisses me off to no end..

EDIT: If GOG were to add something similar to AW (Flashback has rightfully been mentioned) they should consider "Heart of Darkness"! The brutally underrated Eric Chahi-game from '98. I could never get it to run on PC, but played it on PS1. Brilliant game!

I would also like to see Heart of Darkness here; I've never played it but it sounds good from what I've read about it. Also, for those who don't know, Eric Chahi is working on a new game called From Dust, to be published by Ubisoft, that looks pretty cool. Kind of a Populous vibe, with you being able to mould the landscape to help out some villagers.

"From Dust" is, without a doubt, my most anticipated game of the year!:)
I own Another World, Flashback and Fade to Black.... just to explain how I love this kind of game.

Flashback (CD version) works perfectly in dosbox, so it does Fade to Black.

Even if never personally tried I know you can play Heart of The Alien on the PC using Fusion ( http://www.eidolons-inn.net/tiki-index.php?page=Kega ).

So, there are no technicalities that stop GOG to sell those other games, but I guess it is hard to obtain the permissions.

Except Fade to Black wasn't really fun to play, and there were too many instances where you'd get killed off immediately :P
Don't get me wrong, I got Fade to Black free on Playstation by buying a couple other games, but still, I was disappointed.

I thought Fade to Black had some cool parts, enough to make me forgive a lot of its shortcomings. Flashback was definitely better though.
