I have to say i found HotA to be a complete mess. I didn't find out about until a few years ago, having been a fan of Another world ever since i was a kid i emulatore'd HotA straight away. I'm really glad i didn't play it as a kid. The world of AW has grown on me for about 15 years, and has become quite a vivid place. Playing HotA as a kid would deficiently have set a stop to that. The game retains none of the magic of the original. The controls are a mess, the story is forgettable at best and the character of the alien is not evolved (?) at all. One could argue that the characters weren't really fleshed out in the original either, and that this contributed to the magical mystery of the game.
But in the sequal, straight away, Lester is shown to have died. And the alien, who brilliantly remained left to the imagination throughout the first game, is STILL completely left to the imagination.. Even as the protagonist. I don't understand this.. Well, i won't ramble on any further. The sequel is sterile, the controls are broken, the character of the alien is still a mystery (but not in the good way), and LESTER IS KILLED OF !!!?!?!?
Pisses me off to no end..
EDIT: If GOG were to add something similar to AW (Flashback has rightfully been mentioned) they should consider "Heart of Darkness"! The brutally underrated Eric Chahi-game from '98. I could never get it to run on PC, but played it on PS1. Brilliant game!
