I've never used the official play by email feature before. Let me know if that worked.
Ah it actually arrived in the Wrapper and everything was fine until I tried to open the turn - 'exception map show scene' or some such pops up and just as I click on my leader's face at the start? Game crashed a few times now anyway. Any ideas?

Thankfully someone made a fix for that error last year. It's not related to PBEm or the wrapper or anything, it's just a windows 10 graphics error is the good news - everything should work fine with the patch.

Patch worked, which is wonderful news. One last problem it seems, this popped up when I tried to send the turn via the Wrapper:

TITLE: Age of Wonders Email Wrapper
------------------------------

Error sending email: AoW email game (Cults and Keepers - 4 player FFA).
To: juri.aow@gmail.com

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

5.5.2 Send hello first [DB6PR01CA0077.eurprd01.prod.exchangelabs.com] (Mail)

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

Resend
Cancel
------------------------------

Turn is done anyway, I'll post a log if this is resolved too, any suggestions? Thanks a million for the last bit of help, the patch worked perfectly.

I have no clue, especially if it was sent from your gmail address not the hotmail one.

Maybe you can fire up another game to test it more, vs yourself or versus me at jianglongqua[at]gmail.com[dot]com
dunno if that would help

Did you try to send it from a hotmail address? Hotmail won't let the wrapper do what it wants to do to send an email. You'll need a different email provider.
Edit: switched to the gmail as default but keep getting poll failed server closed connection or authentication failed invalid credentials failure - I got the latter issue before with the hotmail but eventually figured out I had entered the password wrong; now I have the gmail one right and everything but no luck?

I don't really understand this issue, but I think about a year ago I enabled 2-step verification on my gmail account at Bookwyrm's recommendation. Maybe that'll get it working. just be sure not to get yourself lockedo ut of your own email account like I did for a while....

So I can't get gmail to work and I'm amazed I can't use hotmail to do this, I had always used it in the past to send turns with and without the Wrapper, most recently maybe 4-5 years ago on the Facebook group for this game. I may need to bow out after all this.

Hotmail used to work, and is what I used for a good while. Then suddenly it stopped sending in the middle of a game. I contacted the guy who wrote the wrapper, and he indicated that recent security changes by Microsoft prevent the wrapper from doing or accessing something or other. I don't remember the details, but I can dig out the email if you like. The wrapper writer indicated that he doesn't have time to update the wrapper.

I'm not sure what the gmail problem is. I remember Mimo saying you'll need to set the gmail security settings pretty low to let the wrapper do its thing. I managed it, but I don't remember exactly what I did.
If there are some technical difficulties, remember that you don't need the email wrapper. You can manually grab the file from the emailout folder and attach it to any email. Incoming turns can be either placed into the emailin folder or the saved game folder. The only requirement for playing your turn is setting your in-game local email address according to the original email address used.

The official PBEM method is great for creating more privacy between turns, but it is also possible to email a hotseat file back and forth (and play with customized leaders).

If you go to the gmail interface there's an icon (of nine squares in square formation) and that icon gives a menu, the first option on which is 'My Account'. If you then go to Sign-In and Security, and scroll to the bottom, it should have a slider saying ''Allow less secure apps: OFF'' Switch it to ON and the Wrapper should be able to work.

Hopefully this is the last piece of the puzzle. Sorry for forgetting about this detail until now.

I received the turn of Highmen, please resend.
southern it seems to have worked! Took a while to figure it out but yeah turned off two step security then allowed less secure apps and all good now.

jyri - hopefully the right turn has been delivered now.
