Windows 98/ME Compatible Installer
+1. Good old games should come with installers compatible with good old operating systems.
This would be very interesting and exciting to pull off. I would add to make sure it has 2000/XP compatibility (even if it sounds redundant) as a lot of people still use them on older computers.
I also would love to see some option to get original disk images with a GOG purchase, or some supported way to copy my purchased games over to my DOS/Windows 95 computers. I'm doing this manually now because GOG is often the only place left to find a lot of these games, and can't find my childhood disks anymore.
Please make a version of gog galaxy for windows 95/98/me
Alternatively allow us to download the original versions without the patches for modern systems bundled. That way we can get the original releases for our old systems legally, without having to resort to buying the game and then finding a compatible copy on the internet.
Just use innoextract, like we do on GNU/Linux, to decompress the installers.
I totally support this. Some old games just don't work well enough on new hardware/OS, and if you have a proper machine to play them on, it SUCKS that you have to go through the pain of installing on a modern machine and then copy files over. Does GOG still stands for Good Old Games?? The it should support Good Old Windows 98.
please make this happen gog!
For those who REALLY want to make installers work atm on 98 you can use KernelEx, it will give errors at the end of install but game will still work
This would be great, however some games have changes that just aren't compatible some recent examples I've run into are Rune Classic, and Red Faction. They have different executables that need a newer vs of Windows. Would still be nice for the games not modified though.
Installer that would work on on windows 98 would be great
Yes PLEASE! I really want to install games on my Win 98 box that aren't DOS games. If anything I would easily accept a .zip file with all the game files and a quick .vbs file that created all needed registry keys or something. Any sort of support for Win 98 would be welcome.
