New sort option: Original release date
How do you sort games whose release date is not entirely or unequivocally known?
+1 for a "Sort by (original) Release Date" option. Classic games probably will play nicer on vintage (??) Core2Duo hardware that recent OS evolution (??) will not. This sort feature will help to match game requirements with dedicated hardware.
Laugh, clearly I'm not the only one who is interested in this. Please add this.
I was searching for games from specific years (1992 to 1998) and couldn't find the option. Searched google for "gog sort by release date" and this is the first link. GOG, you are losing sales, how can I find the stuff I want ? Don't make me go back to abandonware sites I want to give you money !
This has been ongoing since 2012. It seems GOG are not interesting in letting people sort Good Old Games by release date.
It is really a pain atm to search for old / classic games on GOG.com :/
Please add this functionality. Release date is already a value you have for every game. It couldnt be that major of a task for your devs.
Id make more purchases on GOG if I could easily search for classic games. I got steam for my modern gaming purchases you guys are literally costing yourselves customers by trying to be Steam.
Please really add it. This wish is NOT completed.
After watching Gamestar's doc I expressly came here to look for really old stuff, like from the 80s old. And as the previous commenter pointed out, this doesn't work at all. (see screenshot here: imgur.com/a/XLGRGGZ )
This option MUST come back - it's almost impossible to browse all the 'good old games' at the moment...
Dear GOG! We realy want sorting the games by releasing date! And now it doesn't work'
The date range filter was removed and the sort by oldest is broken :(
Yup, it's completely bonkers. Hitman 2: Silent assassin from 2002 is apparently the oldest game when using this sorting...
This wish is NOT completed! Sorting is completely wrong
confirming they removed the date option
I thought i was going crazy, but it's really missing. And sort by newest/oldest does not work.
Um, sorry folks, not that frequent around there, but did they removed "display games of certain release date range" filter? I was so used to filter showing me only 1978-2000 games and now it's gone? With my backup option "sort by date of release" totally fubared how can I check only games released before 2000 now?
Option missing 29.10.2018
Something is not right with this sort option: GOG split up games contained in collections. Now I sort by "Oldest First", and the oldest games seem to be "Hotline Miami 2 Comic" and "Eye of the Beholder". I am 100% sure those aren't the oldest games. Could you add the release year to the split games so that they are sorted correctly?
Two new sort options have been added recently: OLDEST FIRST and NEWEST FIRST. Both seem to be working fine. Thank you! So, is this feature still in development, or has been officially implemented and this wish fulfilled?
It used to be an option, but was removed for unknown reasons.
Desperately want this.
Thankfully I was searching for this feature request before I started my own. This feature is a no brainer for a company that brings old games to it's customers. Do it please.
Doing this manual is a chore and unbundling process destroys it. I sometimes like to play them by the years so I need this practical sorting option.
Was going to suggest this, but saw it already existed. Would be great to be able to see the chronological development of games in your account and in the GOG catalog.
This sounds pretty cool! I wonder what the oldest game on gog is...
yes please.
I really don't know why this is missing. :-(
I can't believe people have been waiting so long for such a simple (but useful) feature. Bring it on, already!
Amen.
I just wanted to suggest that very same feature. As a sort freak, I like to keep my games sorted by release date in my shelves (as a way to know, at first glance which game to play first when I want to play them by release date). It would be great to be able to that on my virtual shelf :)
That would be an amazing small feature!
Not just for the games we own though,b ut also have the option as a search query, so we can look at all the games from eg. 1995 at a single glance.
Would be a great option and shouldn't be too difficult to implement. Please get to this GOG!
I really miss this option. Also an option to tell Windows native games from DoxBox and ScummVM games.
Yes, this is a great option to have. Some people complain, that they have hard time fishing out "old" games from "new" ones. This option will make it really easy.
I love to sort by year in order to help decide playing order, so I would greatly appreciate this feature, as it takes way too long to manually sort it like this.
Something ultimately unnecessary and we can do without, but would still be cool to have, so voted.
here! here! the database already has the values for each game... it should just be an additional query.
YES! This would be an excellent feature.
I like it and it should be that much of a problem to add (Wikipedia has most of the launch dates) and its just one more number. But it would take a long annoying time to get all the numbers and put them with the games.
ive been meaning to add this wish for a while then i just did, then i decide to look at the list and BOOM. like jim jones you beat me to the punch. ha. joke in bad taste? just like the punch. nvm good wish tho.
I love this idea. I've often wanted other options to quickly sort my shelf. Sorting by the original release date, or at least grouping games by decade would be extremely useful in finding and/or remembering what I've bought. I usually think of the games on GOG.com and on my own shelf in terms of their original release date, so this would be perfect.
Was just about to request this... thought I should check if anyone else had thought of it first... apparently more than 1000 people had. XD
Aha! So I'm *not* the only person who wants this.
This would be good not just for the shelf, but for the games catalog as well.
Well, why not. It can't be hard to implement!
I support basically anything that'd allow the GOG game-shelf to gain greater organization.
I dig this. Thumbs up!
