Add notifications for game updates to Account & Downloader completed
Should this really be marked as completed? After all they completely broke this feature with the revamp of the site and the unbundling. Haven't seen a notification for weeks.
Thanks for completing this.
Yes, give us simple e-mail notifications please.
I added a wish regarding updates and it seems to have been deleted as a duplicate. Sorry, I looked before posting but managed to overlook this one! ... I would still like to see even more detailed information about file updates. For example: What has changed with the Witcher since I last visited? Has the game been changed? or were the files just resegmented? Also, the information needs to be persistent. As it is, it seems I can get a notification that my files have changed while logged in on my mobile device. When I get home and try to download on my desktop, though, the notification is gone.
We've just added a much requested improvement to this feature - next time you will receive a notification about a game update, on top of your shelf there will be also a new switch allowing you to filter between "all games" and "updated games only" so you don't have to go through the entire collection looking for these little "UPDATE" tags (the switch is visible only if you have at least one update notification).
I also like filter for "updated" games. I have about 197 games and it is litle hard to search 1 or 2 updated games :)
Not quite done with all items associated with this wish... Game patches/updates should ALWAYS include an associated text file listing the update changes. For example, the current latest download patch for the GOG version of Alan Wake is V1.0.3. However the auto-patch for the same game distributed on Steam is currently V1.06, having iterated progressively from V1.02--->V1.06. Is V1.0.3 from GOG the same as Steam version V1.06 ? Or is it really equivalent to Steam V1.03?? Cannot tell without the descriptive text file..... ( Btw, the patch-description text files for both Steam-distributed and non-Steam-distributed games are usually listed under the respective game-entries on www.patches-scrolls.de. Even if GOG chooses to make patch/update downloads for their games exclusively available from their site, a la Steam, they could still list the changes on Patches-Scrolls, just as Steam has done )
Thank you, really appreciate it :-)
Thank you for implementing this. I do have a minor niggle with the way it currently works. The Updated notification under " My Account" is really nice. It would get even better as that updated number was actually a link that can be clicked to take the customer to the game(s) that has/ have been updated. That minor enhancement would make the implementation perfect for me. I guess it is a bit of a luxury issue, as I have so many games in my library that the update-indentifier does not really stand out ;-)
Thanks very much for this
We've launched this today with Space Rangers 2: Reboot release - notification was sent to all owners of Space Rangers 2: Dominators as the installer on their game shelf was updated to include the expansion :) and appeared on My Account and the new version of GOG.com Downloader.
This really needs to happen. Add them to both and let use choose if we want to get em. I have no idea how to keep track of updates currently and if anyone could help that would be appreciated.
This got my vote. I think it's best put this under the my games tab on the website, and also within the downloader for those of us using that feature. I think it's also important to give the user control over which patches get installed, and which don't, so NO autopatching. In soms cases game patches do more harm than good. and they bring entirely new issues. Give the end user control over this :).
Email notification would be perfect for me (not using the downloader under gnu/linux).
Definitely hoping that this will be on My Account.
We need a client. Something like a streamlined MSN/ICQ for our account, where the downloader would be integrated and access to our account. Would be nice and could add some community features. I love you all very mucho grande sexy nice.
Every notification that appears on My Account will appear in Downloader too, therefore it will be both, no worries :) (EDIT: changed the name of the wish, so there's no confusion)
Put it into an OPTIONAL client like I have suggested : www.gog.com/en/wishlist/site/steam_like_client_program_for_gog_drm_free_games_and_bonus_content
Why not simple add it to "My Account" AND GOG Download Manager? Then everybody will be happy and it doesn't hurt the other part.
Definately agree
Got my vote
There is a different request for adding it to "My Account". Currently about #6 by number of votes.
I vote for adding notifications to "My Account".
Odd...I tried to add a comment here earlier, but it didn't seem to take. I'll repost it, hopefully this won't result in duplicates. As far as I can determine, it seems like GOG.com already maintains information on whether you have already downloaded a game or not. They also have the ability to mark games as "new" when they're added to your account. If these abilities were combined and modified, then a game could be marked as "updated" when the time of the last download is less than the time stamp of when the installer was last uploaded. This could provide the functionality of allowing the user to maintain up-to-date backups of the games that they have purchased without the use of the "optional" client. This is doubly important since the user is expected to maintain backups of their games in the wake of the site's "we are closing down" relaunch and currently there is no simple or sane way of managing this (which was the reason I was not maintaining backups of my purchased games previously).
It should be both the downloader and account IMO.
Yes! Please add it to "My Account" :)
Very good option :)!
I stand corrected
agreed
mrkgnao: Absolutely, we should be notified about updates. Currently at the GOGWiki we maintain a list of installer hashes and note in the articles if a GOG has been updated. This is hard for us to do, though, because we effectively have to guess when an update has been made and then test the game to determine exactly what's changed. Still, we do it because we love everyone.
It should be in both places actually.
Should be part of both. I don't want to have to check my account to find out my game has patched. I only really come to the website when I'm trolling for something new.
Why would this be part of the downloader? What about people who don't use the downloader? Why not make it part of "My Account"?
