X-Wing vs Tie Fighter Complete Bundle completed
Glad to see it completed, thanks Ciris. If " Advanced Tactical Missions" is important to anyone, consider creating a separate wish. :) However unlikely maybe the rights for it could be sorted out and/or it could appear here.
We've added X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, complete with the Balance of Power expansion. "Advanced Tactical Missions" is an unofficial expansion, so as such we can't add it to an official game - hence, as the doable elements of the wish are met (and the third is probably downloadable somewhere), I'm marking it as complete as some already asked us to below :)
So perhaps the GOG staff can edit in what Tim said to the description (explaining how they cannot bring it), and mark this as "complete".
For the record, the Advanced Tactical Missions was an unofficial expansion pack by a different publisher. The current XvT bundle in GOG.com is officially complete, including all the official content as far as I can tell (including the Balance of Power expansion pack).
You made dreams come true releasing X-Wing and Tie Fighter. Can you do it again?
if we can play the mission in multiplayer, it ll be a instant buy
:D plz add it and take my money!!!
I couldn't find anything about the "Advanced Missions" expansion or add-on via Google; can somebody link me to it? Just curious.
XvT is my all-time favorite computer game. Instant sale if GOG releases it!!!
i neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed ! :))
This is the best game of all time.
fjekwljk you are terrible and need to stop, If you have some real thoughts about this thread please share them. Your copy/pasting of random crap is not productive.
This needs to happen. Need I say more?!
I really liked the best of 5(?) skirmish battle system (which was not exclusively mutiplayer, by the way). The missions were well done and were randomly chosen but always lead up to a climatic finale, like a cruiser vs. cruiser or station raid. Being able to choose whatever fighter with whatever loadout you wanted was great too.
Not too interested in the XWing or the TIE Fighter game, but XWing Vs TIE plus the expansion, Balance of Power...
You'd have my money the second that happens.
Bring it on!!!!! Can't wait to play X-wing vs tie Fighter again!!!
When Disney bought Lucasfilm, I'd have thought this couldn't happen... But with the recent release of other LucasArts titles on GoG, you have to feel like this could be on the cards... right? Please?
+1...or adapt Tie Fighter to add a multiplayer mode...
The Rebel Squadrons is also 'round. Got plenty of custom missions waiting on XvT and XWA. www.rebelsquadrons.org
I'd love to see XvT on here, I have that with the BoP expansion on cd and they just don't quit run well enough on these damn modern machines :(
TRA and TFA are still clubs at battlestats.com or Darkjedi.com
XvT was the all time best space combat simulator EVER
Yayyyyyyyyyyy!!!! :-)
I thought it'd never frakkin' happen tbh.....
So much of my childhood was taken up playing these games.

I just read an article that it's gonna happen!! and it's coming to GOG!! keep an eye out cuz they said it's redigitazed, and should be here very very soon!!
+1 great
It's almost like Disney is allergic to money... wait, no that can't be right, they're drowning in money. They have more money than they know what to do with, it's how they were able to buy Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. It's really sad that they don't actually utilize the full extent of the potential their properties have.
And X-Wing Alliance, too!
By all the gods, make this happen!
+1
Insta-buy
the 1970 burning of Doctor Who episodes comes to mind here. I guess Knights of the Old Republic is inaccessible also. Will have to take extra care of my CD-ROM version and see it isn't tampered with by maintenance barging into my apartment as that is the only copy I have.
After the buyout of Lucasfilm by Disney this is very very very very very unlikelly to happen.
These games are now in the disney vault, that means they will not come back ever. Especially not in a DRM free online shop.
Forget it.
Please add these games, if possible. I personally would pay quite a bit of money to have these games DRM free and able to run on a modern system
To be clear, the "X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter" collector series included X-Wing "Special Edition" and TIE Fighter "Special Edition" that were upgraded to the XvT Engine, but from what I understand XvT: Balance of Power was not included.
There are basically a few ultimate versions:
SW: X-Wing "Collectors Edition" - Released in 1994 (used upgraded TIE Fighter engine)
SW: TIE Fighter "Collectors Edition" - Released in 1995 (included Expansions "Defender of The Empire" and "Enemies of the Empire" - offered higher resolution options)
X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter - released in 1998 (exclusively Multiplayer)
X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter: Balance of Power Expansion (single player stories for Rebel Alliance and Imperials)
X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter: Collectors Edition (included special editions of TIE Fighter and X-Wing, which were retrofitted to the XvT engine, and a cut down version of XvT simply labeled as "Flight School" unknown)
This bundle would be awesome! WTB windows 8 version. X-Wing was the first flight sim I played
I am now old but i remember playing it to death. The best part was the part where Darth Vader personally spoke to you. It made you really feel that you were really into the action.
So sad that it never will be purchasable for anyone. Well, the next best thing might be Wing Commander. Need to get a joystick though.
It's very unlikely now that any of the Lucasfilm games will ever come to GOG?
After Disney bought out Lucasfilm (for the new Star Wars trilogy), they put all stuff into their Disney Vault alongside their movies and they even canceled running new game projects.
I think a new version could well sell (over time) 10s of thousands of copies - the old ones are so fondly remembered. Tie-Fighter is still in my Top 10 All Time PC classics alongside Ultima 7, Underworld, Freespace 2 etc...
Even a modded Freespace version would be nice :-)
But imagine using the Star Citizen or Elite engine for this? I'd want the option of various flight models though: Newtonian, Elite-style and original (which was based on 'Battle of Britain' and 'Secret Weapons' and was limited and based on atmospheric fighters)...
It's obviously true, like people say, that Lucasarts titles are generally speaking not available and off limits.
However. In the case of Tie Fighter, before the polygon engines, there could actually be some sort of opportunity for a creative solution. The thing is that the polygon version of the games, that ran on a variant of the x-wing vs. tie fighter engine, and like Alliance and xvst did afterwards, aren't really that good.
At the same time, Lucasarts essentially obsoleted the real collector's edition version of Tie Fighter that was any good, namely the Tie Fighter Collector's CD-ROM, that ran in glorious 640x480 high resolution (hd, baby!), and used goroud-shading for the objects to create the stunning and slow transitions from far to close approach of objects, and so on.
There were many reasons for that, I think, including the difficulty of selling a dos-based game at the time. The old engine also depended on a lot of weird hardware trickery, and I don't think it's an unreasonable guess that a little bit of the motivation to replace it came from that.
This brings us to the point in question, namely that whoever holds the license at the moment - wouldn't they be willing to sell it for that specific game, if it's a new studio creation, remastering the old engine with the goroud-shading graphics?
I mean, consider this - these are projects that very likely still exist in terms of toolchains and source code. And while it'd be a lot of work to truly "upgrade" the game, actually making the engine as it is compatible with a more modern rendering pipeline -- that's not a very large project in comparison.
Furthermore - it should be an easy sell. Like we see, there's some interest in the game. But it's in a category of games that has been dead (since I-War and I-War2), and which won't be resurrected any time soon by the large companies anyway.
And yet, it's a good way to make some splash with new Star Wars titles. Which I'm sure whoever holds the license.. Mickey Mouse or something, I don't know.. will be interested in paying a paltry sum for.
I think this should be something gog.com might want to at least think about pursuing.
But make sure it's the real version of the game, and not the polygon horror Lucasarts tried to push down people's throats.
As far as I remember- "TIE Fighter" was the foundation of this very site. It is a shame that we cannot buy this incredible gem of electronic etertainment i it has to be dealt with!
Lucasarts games probably won't be coming for some time since Disney bought Lucasarts and closed them down in April 2013. Lucasarts site is though still online. Here link to the gameinformer article about the closing of Lucasarts: www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/04/03/disney-closes-game-publisher-lucasarts.aspx

Tie Fighter would be so, so Awesome!! =D
Another +1 for TIE Fighter. I loved this game and lost many, many, many, days and nights in front my PC because of it!
Tie Fighter would complete the group of flight sim games that I did not live without when I was younger. The others being Wing Commander (pretty much the whole series) and Freespace 2. I think the entirety of high school was spent playing these games over and over again for me.
Been trying to re-locate my disc off and on for 3 years. Whenever I find it I'll set it somewhere so I won't lose it, and there goes another 6 months without playing XD would definitely buy if it were on GOG for sure!
Oh hells yeah!
X-Wing woult be great!
I love this game.
